Pinterest - revisited

The search function on the app really doesn't do much so I can't find my old thread. But I have a Pinterest question :)

One of my boards has gone from 24 followers (people I pretty much knew) to over 120 followers in a matter of a couple weeks. Does pinterest suggest following boards to people? How have all these people found that board of mine?

I rarely go on pinterest through a computer, I mainly use the app, so I don't know if I'm missing something.

I get emails from pinterest, and when I log into Pinterest there's a "Friends to Follow" listing on the left, then when I pin something I get a notification of who the image was also posted by.

These 100+ people are not friends of friends. Just complete random strangers (maybe removed by 3 or more degrees, but I'm not sure).

I find it odd that I've gained over 100 followers to one board in a couple weeks.

I think pinterest assigned me boards to follow when I signed up based on my interests. I eventually unfollowed the ones of people I didn't know.

I use it for work, so I haven't had the explosive following that you have (I wish!) I have noticed an exponential growth in more followers since they started suggesting stuff.

I'm really trying to understand this all :)

Since posting the original question one of my pins (an older one) was repinned 11 times and liked 3 times. I assume this was started by one person finding the pin and repinning it, but since I really don't completely understand Pinterest I'm not sure.

Basically, when you repin it also goes on the main category boards. Like if you are browsing and pick the "children" category. So if your friend sees yours and repins, and hers do and theirs do it just keeps going. Or if a stranger like me sees yours under the category I'm browsing, I can click your album and see all of them. So I I'm pinning say recipes and you post one I like, ill repin but also look at the album, and if it seems like you post a lot of things I like in your album I may subscribe. My doctor who album has many followers that also like doctor who, but have never met me. I take it as a compliment that people like what I post, but I do understand if you don't feel that way. You may be able to change privacy settings to friends only, but I wouldn't know how.

Hope that helps I am not the best at explaining things!

Well now I feel bad that I follow people that I don't know :( I do that all the time - in fact, I only have two real friends on there. I just think some pinners have cool boards..
Is that creepy? I totally thought pintrest was meant for that

5 more people started following the past 10 minutes.

Are you guys finding me to increase my followers & my bewilderment ;)

I guess my trouble understanding the surge of followers is that very few of my pins have been repinned by my real life friends, the original 24 followers.

I guess I'll take it as a compliment. I just didn't know it pinterest "featured" pinners or something and that's how this particular board of mine has been found by so many people.

I don't think it's creepy Narnia. I just haven't begun following any strangers, and I'm such a private person that I guess it makes me feel a little off.

I still can't figure out where, so many, people are finding me. One of my boards is up to 197 followers.

Are there any "pinterest for dummies" websites out there or is everybody just figuring it out as they pin?

Since posting the original question one of my pins (an older one) was repinned 11 times and liked 3 times. I assume this was started by one person finding the pin and repinning it, but since I really don't completely understand Pinterest I'm not sure.

    Here's how I understand it:

If you do a search within Pinterest, the results will be other people's pins (as opposed to searching on google in which the results are actual websites). So for example if I searched "gingerbread cupcakes" and you have pinned a gingerbread cupcake recipe from smittenkitten when your pin will show up in my search. If I like the recipe and decide to add it to my board then I am repinning your pin (basically giving you credit for leading my to the website) and you will receive a notification that I've repinned it. I can also decide to just "like" the pin which from what I gather is like bookmarking it so that it won't show up on my board but I can easily refer back to your pin.

I think that your pins can sometimes show up on the main page of Pinterest. I once repinned something and in a matter of minutes 20 people had repinned my pin, so obviously it had been displayed somewhere prominently on Pinterest where lots of people saw it.

Oh and if while looking at your pinned recipe I decide to look through your recipe board and find you have a lot of recipes I like then I can just go ahead and follow you. Then all of your pins will show up in my "newsfeed".

I'm now up to 340+ followers on that board.

But it doesn't seem like they're finding me through re-pins :? Maybe they are.

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure this out :)

I feel a need to post pins to that board to satisfy my (stranger) followers.

    LOL-now they have expectations!!

I had a pin blow up and I figure it must of shown up on a main pinterest categorie. I always check the main Pinterest categorie for Food & Drink, DIY, and Woman's Fashion.

I really do not follow that many people and none are real life friends. I mainly check the categories I noted above and repin that way. I will also pin clothes, recipes I find as I browse around - to me it's easier than bookmarking pages-I like visuals :)
