Some Proteins, But Not Others?

So my favorite Leave-in/Styler is the SM Curl & Style Milk. I would literally cry if this product was discontinued. It's more important than my RO or Poo. With that said it has silk protein and coconut oil (which some say acts a lot like a protein). I have absolutely no problem with these ingredients, in fact I assume my hair responds well to them.

Now if I use a product with hydrolyzed quinoa or wheat protein, it's a whole other story. The reaction is so bad in my hair it's almost like a chemical processing treatment. My hair goes from being soft and curly to crunchy like straw and depending on how many times I used it (back when I was ignorant about ingredients) the damage can become irreversible.

Am I the only person like this?

I want to give Hugo Naturals another shot...at least with their shampoo, but I had such a bad reaction to their smoothing shampoo, that I have to keep reminding myself the moisturizing shampoo doesn't have the protein and it should be okay. I even used the the moisturizing version before the bottle change, but I guess I'm just that traumatized :confused2:.

It is very common to respond well to some proteins and not others.
remember, with all advice or suggestions for your hair, YMMV!! :read2:
    My hair:
2b wavy, medium texture, low porosity, med-high density. Protein finicky.
    My routine:
Cleansing: DCNP, every 4-5 days (occasionally use CJ cleansers).
    RO: CJSC, occasionally use JCDC
    LI: KCKT or CJSL
Gel: KCCC, CJCIAB for 2nd day hair (sometimes third)

Heat is my friend: warm water rinses, steam caps, and diffuse dry. I love CLU cloths and my Denman.

Ditto. The opposite for me though. I love wheat proteins because they give my hair more defined curls, but silk proteins make my hair flat and limp.

You are not alone! My hair LOVES silk proteins but does not do as well with keratin or wheat (which are stronger from what I understand)
My hair: 3b, corkicelli, medium porosity, medium texture, medium/thick density

    Co-wash: DevaCurl NoPoo
    Rinse-out: GVP Conditioning Balm
Leave-in: KCKT, Suave Naturals Coconut, or my rinse-out!
Gel: SS FHG (my new HG!!)... I also like HESMU, AIF, CJ CQ, BRHG, CJ PP and the occasional LALSG

    Likes: Plopping!
    Dislikes: Glycerin

    CG and loving it! :hello1:
