What do you think of MTV's Catfish?

JohariJohari Posts: 673Registered Users
At first i thought it was gona be lame but its pretty interesting. I just feel bad for the people because its like they wasted their time. I never saw the Catfish movie but i still don't believe in online dating esp if I didnt meet the guy in real life first.

I've only seen one episode. I felt really bad that the girl was misled, but I guess you never really know who that person is until you meet them IRL.

The episode I saw the girl thought she was in a relationship with a guy who called himself "Scorpio."

I caught some of the movie when MTV aired it the other week & was intrigued. I saw most of one episode (Sonny & RJ/Jameson) and the beginning of this weeks episode.

I'm interested in seeing it all! Don't spoil what happened with Scorpio, I didn't get to see much.

I found the movie and the show equally fascinating.

I think what fascinates me the most is how trusting (and yes, naive) some people are.

Back when I was internet dating, I was Googling the heck out of guys who I had only chatted with via email or phone once or twice. I truly can't imagine NOT investigating a person I started to have feelings for.

It's a good show, very interesting. Idk if the first was real, unfortunately the second episode was staged. The girl in that episode is a paid actor. She models and wanted to get out there a little more. So it makes me question the other episodes. But whether it's real or not, i like watching it because that's actually how i met my current BF. :)

DepressedCurls how do you know it was staged? I thought it was a documentary & I hate when I get wrapped up in "reality" shows that are fake. Although I do find it hard to believe these women are this naive...and the next episode is about a couple who have dated online for 10 years and never met. That sounds very skeptical to me too, so I was wondering how real this show is before I read your reply.

I saw this movie the other day. It was sad, I felt bad for that super-lonely woman and worse for the guy she tricked. I don't think it was real though.

I have not watched the show, but I have seen the movie. I do believe it was fake, just a written script, but I know a Catfish or two. They have several fake Facebook Profiles and use them to stalk guys they are interested in. They friend several women and men the guy knows, with the fake profile, to keep tabs, or start trouble.

One is... Oh hello padded room.

Let me add the people I have known have not been women stuck in a mundane/hard life looking for an escape. It has been young women in their 20's who are either bored and angry or have substance abuse problems, are compulsive liars and have a history of various psychological disorders. Some have been known to carry around guns in their purses because of the marriages they break up for fun. Literally, for fun. Sad... yes and no. Some could grow up, let go, and realize there is absolutely nothing wrong with being yourself. The others are a different ball game.

I'm watching "Matt and Kim". I wonder how common that is? I imagine many of the people who pretend to be someone else have some sort of physical challenge. At least that's what I've seen of this show so far.

    smdh, wow....

i havent watched, but when i heard of the show I thought,"are there really that many people out there who would fall for that crap?" i wouldnt be surprised if it was staged. anyone remember cheaters? all staged!

I still have not watched the show yet, but I did read a description and saw the word "docudrama". Okay then. The scripted movie it is based on was still enjoyable to watch.

^^^Cheaters was pretty obviously staged most of the time. I saw one ep where the wife slapped hubs in the back of the head. I think that was improv. The look on his face was pretty hilarious.

Wasn't the host of cheaters stabbed? That part was real (right?)

when I saw the prviews for the 10 year couple, I thought, no way. But seeing the episode, it made a lot more sense.

But seriously, have these people never heard of google?

Man, reality shows make me sick. All literally staged, I guess: Breaking Amish, this show, dang! Even my beloved, trashy Cheaters.

I'm addicted to all "The Real Housewives" shows. I can't believe the crap I put into my brain in the evenings. I'm sure most of that is staged. Not all, because Taylor's husband did commit suicide and Adrianne & Camille did get divorces..

I'm on board with 90% of reality shows have SOME sort of producer-driven influence.

But no way was that recent show with "Matt and Kim" staged. Nope, not buying it. Those emotions on both of their parts were too real.

It's obvious all those reality shows are staged..I mean they have to be lol. But who cares, as long as it's entertaining. I can't stand most of them. I do like one about rednecks though, I think it's called duck calls or something.

My friend was on Say yes to the dress and she was annoyed. They gave her scripts to say that were all very untrue, not even matching with their friendship or past.

i dont know about say yes to the dress. i thought at least those types of shows they let people be themselves.

But why? If there's not enough drama, it won't be interesting!

i havent seen alot of say yes, but it dint have over the top drama to me. i figured a bride looking for the perfect dress is bound to have some drama so why need to script it? i'm just having a "wow" moment.

i know show shows are i guess "edited". like queer eye for the straight guy. watching the show, it seems they were there for a day when in reality they would be there for close to a week. the show was just edited. but now i'm wondering if those guys were really just models or something. (if anyone knows, dont tell me, i dont want to know the truth!)

Oh my god! Jasmine and Mike is horrible....basically this woman started talking to a guy online. They talked for two years. But when she finally goes to meet him, it's a woman that SHE KNOWS who did this as revenge....to keep Jasmine from getting involved with a guy that "Mike" (really Missy) wanted.

So Jasmine is all humiliated, and keeps saying "Let me just beat her azz, let me just beat her azz," and Missy is saying stuff like "You're fat, you're out of shape, who talks to somebody for two years, you're an idiot," etc.

Lord save he children. LOL and smdh!
