PT Treatment- gone wrong?

atmosphereatmosphere Posts: 5Registered Users
Hey fellow wavies,

Yesterday I thought I'd give the gelatin PT treatment a try because my hair was looking more limp than ever.
I mixed together gelatin, olive oil and citric acid and poured it over my hair and left it on for 5 mins. I read that hair feels scrunchy afterwards and that you need a conditioner when you are done. However, mine just felt really soft. Now i wonder if I did the treatment wrong or my hair just loved it so much i need to do more treatments? What do you think?

I would be really thankful for your help :)

How much olive oil did you use? I personally can't use olive oil on my hair because it's too heavy and will weigh down my hair.

Only two teaspoons. But maybe that's the problem ? Can you do a PT without oil?

    Thank you :)

    A few possibilities:

Too much and/or an oil that your hair didn't like (I'm assuming you dissolved gelatin in hot water and then added the water and citric acid?). I do use a heavy oil in my PT (coconut), but it's a small amount mixed with a bunch of other stuff.

Do you normally see better curls with protein? I know a few ladies who are unable to do protein treatments because the concentrated dose of protein actually makes their hair soft and straight, rather than the typical over-proteined brittle straw feeling. This might be something to play around with a little bit.

I've done that protein treatment 5-6 times, and my hair never gets crunchy or feels dry. I don't usually use very much olive oil, just a few drops. I usually put in a little bit of conditioner instead. I did an experiment once where i didn't add oil or conditioner to the treatment, and my hair still didn't get crunchy or dry or anything. I even made a double recipe to make sure I covered all of my hair. So my hair didn't hate the gelatin, but it didn't love it either. It does help my waves perk up a little bit, but nothing drastic. I've been meaning to try other types of protein, but haven't really gotten around to it. Try searching for the beer rinse... HTH!

Yes, I stirres the gelatin in the hot water and then put in the citric acid.

Hm, so maybe my hair doesn't like protein? But I felt it was overmoisturized and the waves were getting limp because of that..

Do you think i can use a yogurt mask?
What's a beer rinse? Does it give better definition?

Thank you so much for your helpful answers:))

    Here's a discussion about a beer rinse:

It's a protein treatment. Just something else to try. I've tried it twice, though I feared for my hair smelling like beer and partially rinsed it out--my mistake. And it's easier than making the gelatin! :)
