Shingling on 3b hair?

Does shingling work on 3b hair? I watched the Miss Jessie video -- it sure did give the model great results! I'd be interested to know if anyone is having success with this.

What in the world is shingling?

It looks like a cool way of lengthening your hair (rather than scrunching, which tends to encourage some shrinkage) while keeping natural curl. But all the ladies I've seen in on have beautiful 4a-b curly kinks. Wondering if it'll work for plain old curls!

With my fine hair, I know what would happen- I would get FLAT roots and curly ends. That's what my hair does if I don't scrunch it. :(

Isn't it like the rake and shake method? I don't get the difference.

My hair is too thick to get products distributed just by scrunching so I typically smooth and rake...

I shingle though I do it in fewer sections that what I have seen 4a's do. I shingle in 3 sections usually - front, middle and back (or top, middle and bottom). I find it does help with shrinkage over scrunching. I still scrunch the very tips a bit to make sure I get product on the ends and I want some curl perk up, but I keep the scrunching to a minimum.

I guess it is like the rake and shake but I don't shake, just rake and pull the product through my hair.
