Lol..today I tried a new method for SOTC'ing...

I already use Rudeechick's SuperSoaker method to great effect - I have 2C, 3A hair that loooooves to frizz, no matter what I do. Firstly, RudeeC's method reduced my frizz by at least 30%. (Thank you, RudeeC! I love my Denman! :D And you!)

Then, encouraged by all the creative thinkers here on NC, I decided that since touching our hair makes it frizz more, I would SOTC using...drumroll...common rubber kitchen gloves - the kind you wear when you have to scrub dishes ;p and guess what? It WORKED! It reduced a further 30% frizz outta my hair! YAY! I had barely any frizz at all today, comparatively speaking...(no static, either!)

I took a pic of the ends of my hair after SOTC with rubber gloves on. My hair is lying across my hand, just so you can make sense of the pic ;) If you had seen my hair before that, you'd be shocked at the diff!

if you try this, let me know if it works for you - but *remember* I use the SuperSoaker method as well...I just hope this trick might help anyone else out there at NC :)
Finer, mixed with coarser strands, low-porosity, wavy curly whirly hair...3A, 2C hair. Medium thickness, medium elasticity.
S-shaped hair with corkscrew ends. My hair is even more confused than me ;p
My hair officially hates protein ;) Once a month is enough!
Currently a fan of TiGi products, (rock on, TiGi Curlesque styling creme!) but that will soon change - I am a self-avowed product junkie! Yay! :D
BIG fan of supersoaker method - thanks Rudeechick!

This rubber glove thing definitely works. I put them on again today to scrunch my 2nd day curls after refreshing with water and product - it definitely cuts the frizz down! (although I am not sure why...) YAY!

I really hope someone else will try this, so I can see if it really does make a diff for others too :D

Wow, rubber gloves? Really?? Lol! Well, I don't see the harm in trying this! I may give it a go!! I had thought about sotc with a satin pillowcase, too, so I'll have to try both!!

I also want to try using a shammy behind a t-shirt for getting out extra moisture - lots of experimental techniques to try! Haha!
2c/3a/3b, Fine/med, Dense, high porous, & normal elas.

Lo-poo - Renpure Keratin, SMR, Giovanni SaS

Co-wash - Suave Nats. clar. or coco.
RO - GVPCB, Ion Eff. Care, TN.
LI - SMR, Cure Care, or RO
    Seal - MO or Jojoba
DT - + honey, ACV, & EVOO to SM masque & GVPCB

Lol...great minds think alike :) we obviously have an experimental streak in us both, Jas! Your shammy-behind-a-tshirt plan sounds awesome - I will try it! let me know how the satin pillowcase SOTC goes, too! (I will try that next :D)

In regard to rubber gloves, I thought about it because we are not supposed to touch our hair, so as to not cause frizz...so I thought maybe skin causes too great a friction...and if that skin were covered with something so smooth there could BE no friction, that it might work? That was my line of thinking at the time! lol ;D Let me know how it works for you!

I tried SOTC using a silk robe I have. This worked well too, but my hair didn't feel as smooth as when I used the rubber gloves, lol!

    Scrunch out the crunch
  • Knotty_MaddyKnotty_Maddy Posts: 518Registered Users
I use a hard hold gel and it makes my hair stiff and crunchy until it is scrunched out, so SOTC is my last step ;) and yeah, the gloves work great! I am not sure why, but...whatever works! :D Way less frizz than if I used my bare hands.

Would love to hear if any one else has tried this!

When you SOTC, do you use any product? I'm a little confused as to how to do it.
  • Knotty_MaddyKnotty_Maddy Posts: 518Registered Users
I just meant I was scrunching (SOTC) the hard, crunchy gel "cast" off my curls, after they had air dried, using rubber gloves instead of my hands. It works pretty well, because it causes less frizz than your skin on your hands do. But depending what gel you use, it can cause static ;p I am using Aussie Instant Freeze currently, which is not causing static...

Since no one ever got back to me on trying this, I can't give any hard core facts about it unilaterally working ;) lol!

Hi, I tried this because I read your thread awhile back and I really do think it works. (And I now look like a crazy person walking around with a pair of yellow kitchen gloves tucked into my purse! lol)

I thought the hair would stick to the rubber and pull out the clumps, but it doesn't seem to do anything like that.

My mom also mentioned this theory to her hairdresser and she tested one of her rubber gloves on her hair and said she could see it working (I don't think she actually DID it though).

    2c/3a, fine, low porosity.

Poo: Garnier Fructis Pure Clean (yes, it has A Sulfate!!, but I have Teflon hair)
Co-wash (when I feel so inclined, which isn't often!): VO5 Kiwi Lime Clarifying Conditioner
    Conditioner/LI:
same for both -- whatever I have in the shower at the time (I experiment a lot)
    Style: EcoStyler Olive Oil <3
Dry: Diffuse or air dry, or both...depends on my mood

I wonder if you could use the gloves to apply the product also...I have med/fine hair...and do a modified SS...but still see frizz after applying product...hmm may have to give that a try...would regular gloves work...like latex free ones???

Well, this is VERY interesting!!! I am definitely going to try this to SOTC and perhaps to apply product.

Everyone - please post back your experiences. I thought I had read just about everything but this is a new one on me. Fantastic.

Tried it a couple times...and it DOSE work!!!! AWESOME!!!! So glad I read this thread...Thank You ;) ...I also use the gloves to scrunch the product into soaking wet hair....This really helps to decrease the frizz b/c I really have to scrunch and pump my hair to encourage my curl... But I do use bare hands first to apply product...this allows me to make sure my hair is well coated with product... Again GREAT idea

    What kinda gloves to use?

i mostly don't have a problem with frizz, but on rare occasions i do need to have 2nd day hair, and who hasn't at times needed to refresh hair later in the day, so this is great! haven't tried it yet, but i will.

    3a, some 2c & 3b, medium texture, porosity normal, low elasticity :-(

Ok, I tried this for the last two days...on freshly washed hair AND on 2nd day hair...and my hair had never looked better!!i think this will be my routine for now on! Ill give you a break down on what I did:
I washed with deva curl no poo. Then rinsed with devacurl one cond.....but left a little in as a LI. While still in the shower I did the super soaker method by putting in some DB moisturizing gel and some Chs curl keeper on top then soaked it all again with cool water and combed all of the products through with a wide toothed comb all while my hair hung upside down. I added about a pea size more of the curl keeper then scrunched and scrunched with a micro fiber towel and plopped for about 15 mins.
Heres where the gloves come in.
I have a box of thin latex gloves so I used those and I rubbed about a nickel size of aussie strong hold gel on them. I then diffused upside down and I scrunched the gel in my gloves throughout my hair.i could immediately see a huge difference! No frizz!! And my curls were so defined and soft!!
Yesterday I put the latex gloves on again, rewet my hair and added some more of the DB gel then scrunched while diffusing. I had the best second day hair ever!!
Thanks so much for this great idea! Here is my hair how it normally looks and then how it turned out after this method!
