Red lentils

I have a big bag of red lentils that I bought to make lentil and bacon soup. I'm bored with that soup now so what else can I make with the lentils?

    Thanks saria.

I found a recipe for lentil and chickpea soup that says use cumin seeds. I only have ground cumin. Will I get the same result using that instead of seeds?

Lentils are a staple in our house.

    Dhal with rice.
    Dhal with bread.
    Roti.
Various soups - chickpeas, beans, vegetables, pumpkin, dumplings, etc. etc. etc.
    Make lentil fritters or burgers.
Salad with bulgur or wild rice mixed with lentils.

Daal! I grew up eating red lentils everyday(with rice and other sides). It was a staple.

I had a go at making Daal. I'm not sure it turned out right. My lentils are split. Does that make a difference?

I'm thinking of adding the lentils to minced beef to bulk out bolognaise when I next make it. Good idea or not?

You could. There's lentil bolognese, too.
My thing is that I pretty much only use red lentils for soup or daal or croquettes because red lentils don't hold shape. Salads or something like bolognese I want green (du Puy), Pardina, or black (beluga) lentils because they have a good texture. If the lentils are split, even more reason to use for daal or soup, or some form of dip.

Red Lentil Soup Recipe - 101 Cookbooks

I just made this soup. It is great. I added paprika and cumin to it though. And a dollop of greek yogurt.
