Ways of making curls looser?!

Ok, so this may seem like a stupid question, but at the front of my hair the hair is shorter, and it springs up into tight curls which really annoys me, as the rest of my hair is fairly loose curls, which I much prefer. Is there any way to prevent it from being so curly at the front without using heat and causing frizz. I think I've tried not scrunching it as much but I think it just frizzed out so yeah... I don't think there is really a way and it will just have to grow so the curl with stretch out, it's just fairly annoying, but what does everyone else do?! And please don't suggest curlformers! Thanks

Hmm...instead of scrunching, maybe smooth it on? I've tried raking the product in to try to get the effect you're talking about, but the curl gets broken up. I would suspect that the key would be weighing it down.

I have the same problem. Smooth products into those areas, don't scrunch, and use heavier products and perhaps a stronger hold gel.
