It's the little things that people say...

We went out for a couple of drinks tonight, and just as we were getting ready to leave I was told that my hair looked wet and not to catch a cold. On the walk home I felt my hair and it was dry! All I did to style it was put a little KCKT and some homemade flaxseed gel in it, diffused and let it dry for about an hour before we went out. Did I over do it with product or something??? What looks "normal" to me certainly doesn't fit the bill…

I guess I am just overly sensitive...

Apparently, I am also doing another faux pas: straightening my side swept bangs while wearing my hair curly. There is a whole other thread about that :dontknow: I just saw it recently and took another blow to the ol' self esteem :sad3: I've tried not to straighten them but it just looks awful.

No, it does not look wet. It looks beautiful! And I straightened my bangs for a long time and still do sometimes. It looks fine. It's your hair, do what you want with it. It's really truly pretty! Don't worry about others :) We are too hard on ourselves and hair can be a big source of insecurity for us curlies. And some people have no filters on their mouths, or don't realize how easy it is for us to take what they say the wrong way.

Do you have a pic of what your hair normally looks like dry for the sake of comparison?

Yeah, I'm one of the people on that thread who isn't exactly a fan of straight bangs against curly hair BUT who cares what I think about it ... it doesn't mean much because there are styles I love that others would laugh at me for.

I think you should wear your hair in a way that makes you most comfortable, regardless of what others think. Better to wear something that feels like you, then to awkwardly wear something that you don't like.

Your hair is gorgeous! And I love the bangs! I too straightened mine for years. I just recently learned that I needed to properly condition my side swept bangs and now I love em curly. On days when they don't look their best, I just bobby pin them to the side and they look great.

One thing you can try is flipping your hair upside down and then scrunch your hair that will get rid of some Crunch if you have any.

Your hair looks soft, not at all crunchy or oily. And your bangs look fine too (I'm one of the ones from the other thread who wore her bangs straight for about a year and loved the look, and got lots of compliments on it).

Beautiful hair and your fringe (sorry, I'm British!) looks just fine. It blends into your style well - you don't look at it and think 'Oh dear, her fringe is straight!'
People are fascinated by curls - the person who said it looked wet was probably just curious to know how it hadn't gone frizzy yet! xxxx

I personally think that your curls are gorgeous! And there is nothing wrong with straightening your bangs, it makes you unique! And as for the 'wet curls' comment, that is truly a compliment! It means that your hair looks shiny, which also means frizz-free! Love your curls, girl! :)

I've gotten the same comments about my hair looking wet. Basically, people with straight hair say this when I've used gel, because gel makes my hair temporarily look darker and shinier. Straight hair usually only gets darker and shinier when it is wet and/or coated or sprayed with silicones. It's just another issue of people not really understanding curly hair.

Once the gel crunch is scrunched, my hair looks closer to its natural (well, dyed in my case, due to some grays) color and it's no big deal. Also, I kind of like that it can look darker on first day hair - some versatility is nice.

Sometimes I wear my side bangs straight, sometimes curly, sometimes pinned back with a bobby pin. All just personal preference (and adjustment to dew points and wind speed sometimes). Another example of how versatile curly/wavy hair can be. Rock your bangs how you want them, and how they look good to YOU.
2c, fine, extremely dense, color-treated, high porosity.

Wow, I am overwhelmed by the love and support from everyone here. I need to stop taking everything so personally and negatively. I never thought to take it as a way of saying, "Your hair doesn't look frizzy and it looks shiny", lol.

I don't have any pictures of my hair wet, never thought to do that but would be a great comparison. I will though, my next wash day.

I guess I could wear my bangs curly and just pin them back if they look too atrocious. I don't really enjoy the maintenance and the damage I'm doing to them. I try to get my hair to clump and the side of my head that my bangs rest on is pretty thin. So the clumps in bangs really show off my lack of hair on my temples. Did that make any sense? I'm getting tired of camouflaging my temples.

Please don't accuse me of fishing for compliments. I just wanted your opinion.

I think your hair just looks shiny, don't worry about it.
My sister made the comment about wet hair to me once but I was using Frizz-Ease at the time so she had a point, certainly mine back then looked nothing like yours!
I also think your fringe looks nice, you're like me and don't have much root curl so I think we can get away with it without there being an obvious difference, if you see what I mean.

The damage was the reason I stopped straightening my bangs :( Unfortunately over time I started to get breakage and that section felt so dry.
