How Often Should I (Co-)Wash?

I'm a 2a/3c, thick coarse, high porous curly. How often is good to (co-) wash??? Right now I'm washing with Curl Junkie Daily Fix Cleansing Conditioner then I do Curl Junkie Curl Rehab after for 20 minutes. My hair is amazing afterwards but by day 2 or 3 it's dry and frizzy. I'm trying to wash every 3rd day or longer but I'm just not sure how often I should be washing. Maybe I should be washing and rinsing out with a different conditioner?

I suggest you to read some articles that were posted in this website. Use the search in the upper right corner. Also, I think I've seen this question posted in some other thread discussed before.

It will all depends on your necessity.

I am 3b (with a patch of 3c on top) and try to co-wash 2 times a week, unless I have to go to someplace and need my hair to be at his best, but I have this spritz bottle with water, conditioner and some olive oil and I refresh my hair every day, sometimes even twice.

    :)

It all depends on you, you'll be the judge! I co-wash my hair when my scalp gets itchy, and that's about 2-3 times a week. If your hair is dry after three days, you can also put some product that hydratates your hair in it. Like Oyin hair dew, or water with some conditioner and oil in it, like the girl does in the post above. Good luck!
highlighted 3a hair. Fine strands, medium to high density. Probably high porosity. Growing uit bad layering and aiming for waist lenght!

    Pre-poo: coconut oil

Is it better if you condition more or wait longer until you wash? I know you said that I should do some more research, but some of them are a bit confusing. I read in some that you should try not to wash your hair everyday, because it can dry hair and the expanding and constricting (I think thats the word they used) is bad for the follicles. Or is it just for those who use sulfates and that it is better to CO wash more?

maybe! I saw best results when using different conds to co-wash and rinse out. When I wrote this, I co washed twice a week. Right now Im co-washing only once a week, only more when needed. and have learned how to refresh / style / re-activate my curls.

It is all try and error.

Also, I keep a "Hair Diary" in which I write down what I have done to my hair, and the way I styled that day, including products and the order they were applied.

I cowash daily. Spritzing doesn't work on my hair just yet (still too short). Cowashing is the only way I can get a fresh look. Maybe this will change as it grows. :)

Do it as often as you feel like your hair needs it. I suggest using a very light conditioner for co-washing, followed by a deep conditioner. You will have to do some experimenting! Good luck!

Hi Jacksgirl :) I was just reading your post - sounds like the issue is that you feel like you're loosing moisture? The products you're using look good - I'm wondering if its more an issue with what you're doing after you wash/RO rather than how often you co-wash. Do you use a LI, seal with an oil? This can help prevent moisture loss. Also, as the weather gets colder and the air gets drier, this can effect the moisture in our hair. Certain ingredients, like glycerin, I have to cut back on in winter (I live in a dry climate with low dews), as it starts to dry my hair out. These are just some thoughts - maybe it will help :)

My favorite brands are Kinky Curly, As I am, Curly Kinks, Curl Junkie, and Darcy's Botanicals. Also love sealing with oils (loving argan oil right now) and styling with jelly products (KCCC is my current favorite). Mostly trying to keep it simple!
