I'm new...is this normal?

I decided earlier this week, for a number of reasons, to finally stop pretending I had straight hair. I'm 31 and have had the "wash, condition, towel dry, brush, ponytail" routine for most of my adult life.

I set up an appointment at a local place for this weekend - one that specializes in curls. Wheee!

In the meantime, I've talked to some curly friends that had obviously been wanting to give me some advice. Their thoughts? Product, no brushing, and stop using a towel to dry my hair.

Fair enough.

So three mornings ago, I used a t-shirt and blotted/squeezed it. It was AMAZING the difference. I did the same thing yesterday, and it was even less frizzy. I had curly hair!

This morning, I tried some sulfate free leave in conditioner. I thought I'd give it a go. The result? My hair is still kind of frizzy, but it's also a much tighter curl than yesterday.

As my hair gets rehydrated as I start taking better care of it - is my hair going to keep getting more curly? I thought I was barely a 3a but now I'm a 3a/3b mix and it's only been 3 days! :laughing5:

I have found that my hair got a lot curlier as I used more and more of the advice here. And less frizzy.

It may seem curlier because of the less frizz you get. Your curls are coming out the more good things you do to them. My hair is also 3a/3b :)

When you practice hair care that's right for curly hair, your hair will reveal its natural curl pattern (whether it's 2b or 4a).

Letting your naturally curly hair be its true self is fun! A couple of weeks ago, I went out in the rain (under an umbrella) with my hair down and loose, and I didn't have any fear about my hair "reverting" -- It was already "reverted"!! It's such a liberating feeling.

Everyone is different of course, but yes it is normal for your hair to become more curly once you start practicing curl-friendly care. Mine definitely became curlier after I started truly embracing it. :)
