In your hair routine, when do you get dressed?

silverspooksilverspook Posts: 15Registered Users
Hi I'm new here! I have BSL, 2B, THICK hair. I am trying to figure out when I should get dressed in my CG routine with my long hair. If you're supposed to apply your product and get your hair ready to air dry immediately after your shower, doesn't it mess up your hair when you slip your shirt/dress over your head? Please share your "dressing" routine with me! Thanks!
BSL no more, just chopped it off 9/3/13!, 2c, low porosity, coarse THICK locks!

This is the only reason I plop my hair. I apply all of my products, scrunch with a microfiber towel to remove extra water, and use a flour sack towel to plop my hair for 5-10 minutes while I get dressed. Then I take my hair down from the plop and either diffuse or air dry from there.

Thanks Corrina! I have plopped for 30 minutes in the past, but I didn't like how the hair around my face turned out. But it might be worth it to do it for a few minutes to get dressed though.

I've found that as long as I plop for less than 10 minutes it doesn't mess up my curl pattern or make them lay oddly. I also found that using a flour sack towel (and the technique explained on livecurlylivefree.com) gave me better results than the t-shirt plop I found illustrated here.

I also do a modified plop - I actually use a crotched snood. I started using it to simply hold the weight of my hair while it dries and I liked that it allows for airflow (otherwise my low-po hair would NEVER dry. But, I quickly realized it helps when dressing as well so that is when I dress - right after the snood is in place. :)
remember, with all advice or suggestions for your hair, YMMV!! :read2:
    My hair:
2b wavy, medium texture, low porosity, med-high density. Protein finicky.
    My routine:
Cleansing: DCNP, every 4-5 days (occasionally use CJ cleansers).
    RO: CJSC, occasionally use JCDC
    LI: KCKT or CJSL
Gel: KCCC, CJCIAB for 2nd day hair (sometimes third)

Heat is my friend: warm water rinses, steam caps, and diffuse dry. I love CLU cloths and my Denman.

I use a t-shirt to plop, but I use a variation on the Live Curly Live Free method. As long as I don't plop long enough to come out with dry ends, I'm usually ok. I usually try for around 15 minutes, long enough to moisturize, get dressed, and do my makeup, but up to 30 minutes usually works too.

It stays fairly well on its own. There's elastic or something. But I also just sort of 'hook' it onto a little hair clip. I often have the clips in at the roots anyway. Since it is crocheted, the holes in it just slip on a clip and it stays.

Basically what Corrina said. Plop, then get dressed, then take it out after 5-10 minutes. Since I've been doing that consistently my bacne has dissapeared so.... yeah :)

I get dressed as soon as I wake up. Then I wash my hair in the sink and plop in a turban towel while I put my face on (about 10 min), then I let it air dry while I eat breakfast and read the paper, then diffuse try for a few minutes.

I plop directly out of the shower and then get dressed. I leave the plop on, with a towel over it (for heat, it seems to help) while I get my makeup on and by then it's seven or ten minutes and I squish the towel a little to absorb some more water and then take it off. It's dry enough after that to wear on my clothes without them getting wet. I style, then go wake my kids and it's air drying while i'm getting them ready and fixing breakfast.
2(I have no idea what pattern), low porosity, mix of medium and coarse, dense

It's really neat to hear all of your routines! I cut my hair to a super short pixie cut when I was 15 and wore it that way until I was 24, when I started to grow it out. That was 4 years ago, and it is now BSL and I am still learning what to do with all this hair! :)

I can't plop because my hair is too short. I'm interested to hear the routines of those who don't plop.

In the summer it's not much of a problem because most of the clothes have wider necklines but what should I do when I'm wearing turtlenecks? If I put on the turtleneck when my hair is wet, the turtleneck will get damp (ugh) and my curls will get squashed. I remember that last winter this was a problem.

Curlypearl, maybe try a t-shirt turban? Widen the neck enough to get it over your head without disturbing your curl pattern, then turban with it like you would a terry towel. I prefer plopping myself, but if I recall, someone on the board has good success with turbaning instead.

Today I plopped just long enough to get ready, less than 15 mins, then air dried the rest or the time and I'm really happy with the results! I also tried Sheamoisture curl smoothie and souffle for the first time today, and I'm really like them too! Finally, good hair!!! :D
