Does your hair get mistaken for a wig?

I Get this a lot when my hair is out in a twistout. I have big hair and you can't see my scalp so people who compliment it often ask if it's a wig and how do I do my hair like that. Even when I had a perm, hatin' girls at school thought it was fake because I took care of it.


I take it as a compliment because that means its thick and lush.

So, does this happen to you, random strangers thinking it's fake?

my daughter is often asked if her hair is a weave. people would come up to her at school and slickly touch her hair to feel for tracks. her hair is relaxed but lush and thick too.

If I had a quarter for every time I grt that I would be rich. my hair is massively dense and can get really big. People ask me if it's my real hair or if it is all my hair (like a hair piece). Some people I guess not believing me have actually stuck their fingers in to feel my scalp. Not cool.
Funny thing is I also wear a straight bob wig which is short and "tame" and most people think it's my real hair.

If i have a super hot WnG i get is that your real hair. Never a wig though

ALL THE TIME....When straightened and while in its natural state...It's the color and shine, my hair tends to look synthetic

I was at work one day and some random guy argued with me trying to say my jair wasnt real. It was pretty embaressing. I also had a lady grab my hair from behind. I thought I was going to have to start swinging but then she asked if my hair was real and asked what I do to it. I gladly told her and then she said" oh, well I cant do that with my hair."

I'm still in the TWA stage, so I get asked what kind of texturizer I use very often. I get gasps when I say I don't use them lol. The product question usually follows the gasps. Ohh the joys of being natural.

it's funny because just yesterday I got complimented on my hair and this woman asks me how I do it. I told her that I just twist while damp and unravel them. Then she looks at me like she's expecting me to say more, well that's it, lol.

When its straighten I get mistaken for a relaxer look a like or weave. If done curly with roller sets then ya some people think its a wig!

Only when I was in high school.....but not a wig....maybe a weave or hair piece. That never happens anymore.

I can't believe someone grabbed your hair, let alone argued with you about it.

When I wear two strand twists, I am sometimes asked what brand of synthetic hair I used for my kinky twist. When I explain that there is no added hair; that it's my natural hair twisted I am often given the side eye. It used to bug me but now I just blow it off. I feel it's a testament to the fact that my hair is dense and growing and I'm retaining the length. :toothy7:

Once when I wore a twist out my family and I went to Six Flags. My hair became big and fluffy after walking around the amusment park for several hours and my youngest son told me I looked like I had a wig on. Out of the mouth of babes, I tell you...

Before that I didn't mind people touching my hair- Now I have issues with people touching it. I don't know why someone would argue with me about hair. I don't think it looks fake but he could have kept his comments to hisself.

I think that has only happened to me a handful of times. Not so much recently, though. My hair isn't super dense though. I love thick, full hair!!

Somehow, at my school (which is predominantly Asian and White, if that has any relevance), I'm always asked, "Is [your hair] real?"

Well, uh, yeah, it is. And then they give me this look like such hair can't exist. Sheesh.

Fortunately or unfortunately, that usually happens on days where my ringlets don't frizz. Meh.

Norwegians are a reserved set of people, so no one has asked. However, I had a twist out-fro going on 2 days ago and I experienced this one girl running directly up behind me and started staring intently at it while we stood inline at the check out counter😳. She smiled at me when I was leaving, guess she liked my hair "did"...😊

No but my wigs get mistaken for my hair. Some people don't know I did the big chop so they say things like "Your hair has gotten sooo long" and "How did you get your hair like that? It looks fabulous!" and "Now is that a permanent color, or can it wash out?"

I wish I could do a twist out now but its too short.

People ask if my hair is real frequently. I don't know if they think it's a wig or weave, but they don't seem to think it could possibly be mine. It bothers me.

I used to when I had long relaxed hair. It was super thick and healthy-looking. Now that I'm natural, however, people keep asking me if I have a texturizer. Not sure how to feel about that yet, lol.

Yes; Someone at my job once said "Your hair is so pretty--it looks like a wig!"

My own mother did not believe this was my hair until she went through and touched my scalp. She says my hair looks like a wig/weave, ALL the time.

Only when it's straight. Sometimes I get it when I wear a wash and go but "OMG HOW DID YOU DO THAT?" is waaaaayyy more common.

Yes, I get it all of the time. But I also used to get it when I was relaxed as well.
