How do you use aloe vera? How long have you used it? Are you protein sensitive?

Everything has aloe vera in it it seems, My hair has a sensitivity to it just as it does to protein. I've been using it (in a spritz )since I colored my hair in July and it seems my hair is very wiry now. Usually I try to use products with aloe vera where it is low in the list but I'm trying out a theory and want to see where it goes in the next 4 months.

It isnt breaking because I'm sealing my hair like crazy. I also havent had to do heavy protein since I'm upped my aloe vera use as well. Its been an interesting 2 months.

I have using in my spritz for about 4 months. I use the spritz as a refresher/moisturizer. I use 3/4 rosewater, the rest is equal parts aloe Vera and TN conditioner, about 10 drops of each oil

I use aloe vera gel straight out of the bottle. I sometimes layer it over coconut oil or a leave in. I have some sensitivity to protein. My hair responds well to applying aloe vera gel to wet hair, raking and shaking and then squeezing each section for clumping.

i use aloe vera juice and aloe vera gel. i've used them for as long as i can remember. i don't use straight aloe on my hair. i use it in a spritz or mixed with a butter. i also drink aloe vera juice (straight or in a smoothie).

    i am not protein sensitive.

Hippy, how often do you have to do a protein treatment? Are your strands coarse, dense, etc?

SS, when was the last time you did a protein treatment?

I use AVJ, I have been using it for a little over a year now. I started out using it straight to spritz my hair on wash day and then once to twice after that when I am re-moisturizing my hair. I now add AVJ, Water and 2-3 tablespoon of glycerine.

Now that the winter is upon us I may have to get to using just AVJ.

I have not had any issue with it, but I tend to use a leave-in over it and seal with my shea butter mix. I guess the leave-in and shea butter balances the protein effects. Beside AVJ is a pH balance-r. HTH

i don't do protein treatments. i ensure my conditioners have protein(s). my strands are fine.

eta: my spritz also contains protein
if i don't have protein(s) in my condish, my hair gets mushy.

I don't do protein treatments either. My hair usually lacks moisture but my moisturizers have protein in them. That's all I need though.

+ 1 I use a protein rinse out. I only need protein treatments if I get extremely mushy overconditioned and I have learned to avoid that. I gave the pt I had to a friend whose hair loves strong protein.

I love aloe vera juice and gel.

I have yet to try it really but when I was little my mom would use the actual gel/juice from the plant to relieve an itchy scalp.....I see this big bottle at CVS but I'm hesitant to try because if it doesn't benefit my hair then it was a waste.
I don't see too many aloe vera plants around where I live so I can't use the real thing :/

There is a tienda (store) near me that sells it but it was a pain to peel and try to get the juice out. If you buy the liquid at the very least you can mix it in your drinks. It is very healthy.

Coarse, low P, consider myself slightly protein sensitive, but who knows really?

My hair really likes aloe, in an aloe rinse, spritz, in shealoe, in ready-made products etc. I don't use it often because I like to use organic inner fillet with as little added as possible = expensive!

I don't really do protein treatments, although I did really like the Mozeke carrot protein mask. Like others, my rinse-outs often have a small amount of protein, also I do henna treatments which acts like a protein on my hair.
My hair is in the 4s, low in porosity, high in density and coarse. :happy6:

It seems my hair is now coarse, it never was in the past prior to using aloe vera straight up. It seems to have added protein to my hair shaft on the regular

I now dont require protein treatments monthly as I use too in the past. I'm not sure if I like the effect.

My hair isn't breaking, not that it was in the past but now its really only shed hair coming out.

I know I don't like the feel of my hair itself though,

    what was your hair before?
i wish i had coarse strands!

are you going to stop using aloe/aloe products?

green tea makes my hair feel very protein-y
    black tea doesn't

I use straight avj mixed with evoo as a detangler. My hair loves aloe vera so I usually tend to lean toward products with it.

I have fine to average strands and not protein sensitive.

walmart has a gal of fruit of the earth aloe vera juice for $7.44. i was paying $28.99 a gal for lily of the desert:cwm10:. whole foods has aloe vera juice $14.99/gal. it tastes just like lily of the desert. the best aloe vera juice i've had to drink was george's aloe.

i think i'm going to try spritzing my hair with more aloe vera juice to replace the water and see what results i get. :D

My hair is fine, but dense.. porous & lovesss protein

for the past couple of months ive been using Aloe Juice straight up in a spritz on my hair after washing and applying my leave in..
basically, I rinse my conditioner with warm water.. apply my leave in, spritz with cold aloe juice, emulsify it all together then seal with an oil or butter. I love it, I dont know if my hair is healthier or its the aloe juice balancing the ph/"sealing".. but my hair retains moisture alot better than before AND, my results are more consistent[ly good].

funny you say it acts like a protein on your hair because on mine protein helps me retain moisture & so does the aloe.. I will have to further investigate this.
Either way im going to continue to use the aloe that way! & I surely did cop that $7 Gallon from Walmart HippyChic mentioned a cpl weeks ago LOL

My hair like acvj - it pops those coils just as good as terressentials mid wash. I'm using protein but only once per month and trying to deep condish but I haven't found one that's great yet so a combo of protein condtr AO GPB and Himalaya Amla and Holy Basil condtr together. Working out pretty good

I also have CJ Beauticurls protein condtr. Difference with that and gpb, GPB lengthens my hair and it like disappears immediately into it 😨. Not really a great Detangler. The CJ flows real nice softens and easily Detangles hair goes in quick and gives bounce but shrinks hair just a tiny smidge.

But I def recommend acvj and yea my hair likes aloe too. Most products I have have aloe in them kbn Shealoe leave in is good but I just bought aloe Vera juice so...

I use alot of AV based products and I'm somewhat PS. Now that I think about it, I have been using a lot more moisturizer/oils lately. I was thinking I was (with the heat and color damage) all gone that perhaps I was getting more porous. As you mentioned I haven't needed to do my protein treatments at all lately. Hmm...

Is Aloe Vera bad for protein sensitive hair? Because I have no idea if I am protein sensitive or not but my conditioner does have Aloe Vera juice in it and it seems that my hair is reacting badly to it.

AVG does act like a protein. Some protein sensitive people cannot use it. My hair is very finicky with protein - type and amount - but it responds best to AVG. I use it occasionally for a boost of strength.
remember, with all advice or suggestions for your hair, YMMV!! :read2:
    My hair:
2b wavy, medium texture, low porosity, med-high density. Protein finicky.
    My routine:
Cleansing: DCNP, every 4-5 days (occasionally use CJ cleansers).
    RO: CJSC, occasionally use JCDC
    LI: KCKT or CJSL
Gel: KCCC, CJCIAB for 2nd day hair (sometimes third)

Heat is my friend: warm water rinses, steam caps, and diffuse dry. I love CLU cloths and my Denman.

When I first tried AVG, my hair didn't like it ... but it was also heat damaged at the time.:error: Now, I layer AVG over a leave-in and seal with oil. I'm shocked by the definition and moisture. I think it worked this time because I'm using a leave-in and sealing ... plus my hair is healthier. Have you tried this combo (leave-in, 100% AVG, and oil)?

I tried it as a spritz, but don't think I got the right mixture down right, cause I didn't like it. Will try again..

But used the juice,2 capfuls; along with some olive oil mixed with my conditioner as a deep conditioning treatment and it left my hair really soft.

i'm not really quite sure what is going on with my hair. i was in a protective style for 3mos. the only thing i did different was spritz straight aloe juice on my hair. my hair is looking all kinds of thick now. i'm so confused. i've never had thick hair in my life. my sister and coworker both said "your hair got thicker". does straight aloe vera contribute to thickness???? if so, i need to keep using it fo sho!:hippy2:
