Is it normal for hair to react kind of badly at first to CG because the oils in your scalp have been stripped away for so long and now aren't? And if so how long does this transition period usually last? My hair does feel softer, but my roots/hair feel kind of greasier/gummy/semi wet after I shower and I hate it. And my hair was as dry as the sahara desert before this I used to straighten it sometimes and not have to wash it for around 5 days without grease accumulating. And my hair doesn't look noticeably curlier/wavier/more defined just a little bit softer.

yep totally normal. Mine lasted for almost 2 weeks I think. It wasn't til after it was over that I noticed any change at all. I just wore a lot of updos.

Okay so I should just carry on I think this is the beginning of my 3rd weekish maybe. Iim afraid I'm over moisturizing with the shea moisture shampoo and the GVP conditioning balm.

Do you know your hair properties? You might need something a bit lighter for cleansing and/or RO (or make sure not to apply RO too close to your scalp). I can't imagine using GVP CB as my RO every time. And if you're over-conditioned adding a bit of protein should help (as long as you're not protein sensitive).

a lot of people use tress naturals for their RO. its a bit lighter than the conditioning balm & I wouldn't put it on my roots either.

& yes, I'd keep going. My hair got its worst around week 3/4 & then evened itself out. I just wore my hair up a lot for that bit of time.

I think that if you used to go five days without washing, you shouldn't be having such a gummy transition. I second the idead of using a lighter conditioner for cowashing, and really make sure you give your scalp a good long scrub with your fingertips (not nails). Another tip that has helped me is to continue scrubbing your scalp as you rinse the conditioner out.

If you think your hair might light protein, try using the ion effective care treatment conditioner from Sally's as your cowash.
