Hello,

i just joined this site to try and get help with trying to grow my hair out and encouragement because i have been having perm thoughts lately :shock: and im discouraged about growing my hair out.

I have been 6 months natural tomarrow actually (YAY ! ) and ive had little to no growth...at least to me....my fro shrinks to make it looks like i have no growth at all, drys out quicker than ever, i shed like crazy and i have no idea what products to use. ive been using olive oil ms.jesses baby buttercreame and paul mitchell's leave in conditioner. i try not to wash my hair alot if i do i use pantene relaxed and natural or motions marula natural therapy strengthening shampoo...i want alot of growth at this point my extreme long term goal is waist length but short term is shoulder length.

Oh i forgot to mention i have no clue what my hair type is. its extremely curly and kinky. any suggestions on what i should do?

Thanks for your help in advance!

I would look into the curly girl method if I were you, some of the products you are using are full of silicones, sulfates and other stuff that will only make your hair worst. Don't let pantene fool you with that relaxed and natural stuff it's a terrible product imo and really isn't gonna help your hair any. This is a great site with lots of great info that has helped me. Maybe you should tell us about your hair routine and how you use each product and go from there.

honestly, i dont really have a routine. When i feel its dirty i poo wash every other week maybe i try to co-wash at least once a week maybe. Every morning i wake up my hair is matted and knotty so i mix the leave in conditioner and olive oil and pick my hair out then i apply the ms.jesses. i try to spray with water when it shrinks or drys up. ive been trying to find some products to help and a routine to get it to grow and i just cant seem to figure it out yet :( i didnt have much knowledge when i decided to cut my hair i just knew i needed to.

Well in my personal experience finding a routine really helped me after I chopped. I came on here and learned a lot and I'm loving my hair now it's so much more healthier than I've ever known it to be.

I'm not a pro on all this natural hair stuff or anything, but the olive oil and condtioner thing may not be working together for you. A lot of people use olive oil as a sealant so if you just keep putting it in your hair and your hair isn't moisturized enough before that then it's gonna block out any other moisture/moisturizing products you put in it which will lead you to having dry hair. As I mentioned before ditch the pantene stuff it'll dry your hair out and only cause it to break off. Try to find products without silicones, sulfates, mineral oil, petroleum and parabens, your hair will love you for it :)

I'm sure as you browse around here you'll find what you need to get your hair on track. It can be complicated, but once you learn more about your hair and what it likes and doesn't like, it'll get much easier. I hope that was atleast a little bit helpful.

it is thankful ! thank you so much ! i had no IDEA about Pantene ! my dad's GF always said it was the one to use and thats what we stuck to. i just gave it to her and now on a search to get this hair back on track.! it used to be a little past my shoulders til it broke off. thank you again!

I wouldn't say Pantene is bad it depends on the person I used Pantene relaxed and natural for years with no problems then I decided to switch to all natural products because people said it was better. It's nice know exactly what stuff is and my natural product smell WAY better but if I had to go back to Pantene it wouldn't kill me or my hair

True some so called bad ingredients work for some. Pantene relaxed and natural made my hair feel terrible so I prefere the natural products. Anyways I'm sure you'll find what works for ya. Just be patient, it takes time. You're already 6 months in being natural don't give in to the creamy crack now :)

I use Sheamoisture coconut & hibiscus line
  • fefe912fefe912 Posts: 570Registered Users
^ I use the same line I loveeee shea moisture products.

I co-wash with tresemme naturals moisturizing conditioner

shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie as my leave in unless I decide to use the tresemme as a leave in.

Then I add shea moisture curling souffle under my eco styler gel so that I don't get any crunch when it dries.

During the rare times that I shampoo I use shea moisture raw shea butter moisture retention shampoo.

Those are currently my go to products and all that I need to get my hair how I want it. I've tried a bunch of other ok products though but shea moisture products have remained my fave.

i try to keep everything as natural as i can. so i use alot of different oils, vinegr and herbal and tea rinses, natural conditioners and low poo's. it seems to work really well for me, i just try to keep everything as natural and simple as i can. the raw materials cost a bit, the oils n that, but they last a very long time and are alot better for my health and enviroment. :flower:

my hair: 3b, high porosity, high density and coarse hair (i think i finally figured that all out)
my hair loves conditioner only styling!
Oils and my own procuts are my hairs best friend
my hair goal length is bra strap length when curly.

im nervous about the vinegar rinse just because of the smell! im afraid that if i make anything my dad might try to eat it or something if its in the fridge. i think i want to go with just natural products and homemade except for shampoo or conditioners but other wise i want to try new things i hate my hair some mornings when its matted or shrunken !

hahaha the smell from the vinegar might be a bit strong when you make it but the smell goes away when your hair dries.
