Transitioned for almost 2 years want to relax again?

Hi this is my first post on this website and I want to give a little information about myself before I get into my spiel. I'm a 17 year old girl, a senior in high school and I have been transitioning for about a year and 8 months. (It'll be two years in December) I got my first relaxer in the seventh grade so I guess I was about 12. I had NO idea how to take care of my hair then because someone had always done it for me. So my thick, apl hair broke off to neck length and never really got past shoulder length because of the ways I wore it to bed (i.e NOT wrapped or pincurled), not moisturizing it enough, the way I neglected it and ALWAYS using excessive heat. So in December 2010 I decided I wanted to stop getting relaxers for good and transition until I was happy with my length before bc-ing and going fully natural.

My hair has grown to almost full APL since then and is starting to get thick again. The problem is my mother. I attempted to wash my hair to get the "natural" look but failed considerably because I did not detangle or condition my hair properly resulting in my hair being matted. After that I didn't want to wash my hair ever again until I started looking on hair forums. I learned a lot from them over time and I feel like the information I learned on them helped me retain my length. (i.e. moisturizing with oils instead of grease and then not using heat as much as possibly in between when I got my hair pressed.) I'm happy with the progress that I have made but there's one problem.

I feel like my hair would be A LOT healthier if I could wash it more than ONCE a month. But my mother refuses to let me take care of it, saying that all of the information online is false and that I'll only make my hair fall out. Now I want to begin relaxing again because I want to be able to take care of my hair to my best ability. I KNOW I can grow my hair to my goal of MBL but I would really like to start relaxing either in December or before I go to college next year because of manageability issues, I just don't want all the progress I've made over these past two years to go to waste because of severe hair breakage or something...

I have a reggie for relaxed hair already that I would like to follow which includes co-washing once a week, washing and dc-ing once a week, protein treatments after relaxing, clarifying washes once a month and moisturizing and sealing nightly with the water-based leave-in conditioner 911 and sealing with coconut oil. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions that could help? I'm really not sure what I want to do yet.:confused::dontknow:

I'm sorry that this post is so long, but all help is greatly appreciated! :tongue8:

Hi!!! Welcome to the forums :) It is ok to want to go back to relaxing. Being natural isn't for everyone. I would say think long and hard about it. It will take you some trials and errors to find out what works best for your hair. It took me a little while to figure out, but I did. I would recommend washing more than once if you feel that it will help your hair. You just have to mix and match strategies. You can go back to relaxed hair if you feel that its right for you. I would say give being natural a little bit longer. When I was transitioning, I wanted to go back to relaxers quite a few times.

Lots of Luck, Love, ... And Curls!!! :)
