I don't see very many 2A's on here. Anyone with tips for a newbie?!
in Hair Type 2
I found out all my info!
2A, Low Porosity, Medium Density, Medium Width. My hair is over a foot long.
So, any good products? The profile on my hair type said protein-free and lots of moisture! I would like to add volume to my hair, especially at the roots. Once in a while, it will form ringlets, but normally it's somewhere between a 2A and a 2B when I diffuse it. I will admit, I often go through with a curling iron to "fix" the straighter pieces.

My hair loves moisture!
currently mod-cg , using low-poo and not totally cone-free yet. I'll get there though!
If your hair is the type that needs protein however, protein treatments often perk up curls too.
Favorites:
CO: Whole Foods Lavender Conditioner
LO: Dessert Essence Coconut, Pure and Basic Clarifying Shampoo
RO: SSDDMT

Low porosity: Rinse with warm water for several minutes to open cuticle then let conditioner sit on hair for a few minutes. today i applied a shower cap and let the water run over it to help heat things up then left it on for a few minutes before rinsing conditioner out. also apply leave in while still in shower.
Good luck - that you know your hair properties is a good start.
My hair:
2b wavy, medium texture, low porosity, med-high density. Protein finicky.
My routine:
Cleansing: DCNP, every 4-5 days (occasionally use CJ cleansers).
RO: CJSC, occasionally use JCDC
LI: KCKT or CJSL
Gel: KCCC, CJCIAB for 2nd day hair (sometimes third)
Heat is my friend: warm water rinses, steam caps, and diffuse dry. I love CLU cloths and my Denman.
I stick to all drugstore products. I really like Aussie Instant Freeze Gel, but it tends to get crunchy, so SOTC is a must. I like Renpure shampoo (the green and red bottles), I feel like it cleanses my hair without stripping it of moisture. But there are a lot of people that don't like it. I use either VO5 or Suave naturals conditioners for co-washing.
And as tempting as the curling iron is (I know, I "fix" a few waves with it every once in a while). It's really only damaging your hair and hindering your progress!
Hope this helps! And have fun trying out new products.

My hair is cut into long layers. My underlayer is stick straight, so it's cut a tiny bit shorter so that it isn't longer than my wavy hair.

As others have said, hair properties are much more important then curl type for choosing ingredients/products. Curl type is transient. Before I came on nc.com and learned how to use product/technique, I was a winter wavy/summer 3a. Now my hair looks like my signature picture every day, all year around.
The only place that I've read about low porosity not liking protein is on the nc.com hair property page, which is why I don't use that link when suggesting people determine their properties. My fine/low porosity hair never met a protein it didn't like. I do at least one PT a week and use a lot of products with protein. For me, it reduces frizz and tightens curl.

I dyed my hair using semi-permanent (and substituting my own conditioner!) and after a few days my waves were waving. I've been full curly-girl since the end of August now, and modified curly girl for over a year (unknowingly!). My hair is only 2A/B when it air dries. When I use the diffuser (every day...) It ranges from 2A-2C with ONE huge 3A curl in the back (revealing the worst 2A section)! Ha!
I keep trying to convert all of my co-workers to curly girl. Hopefully I'll get through to them. My hair is basically never frizzy. I have to use the curling iron still, but really just for my bangs. I've been working on growing them out since this summer, but if I do not adjust them with heat, I'd have little waves sticking straight out of my scalp!

Back to Colormemichelle's request for advice . . . I am still really trying to figure out as nothing seems to work for very long. But I would definitely recommend trying KCCC. I thought it would weigh me down but it gives me a ton of curl enhancement/definition. The only issue I have is that I think I need to rotate it out with other stuff because it can weigh down over time. Give it a try!

I scrunch as much water out of my hair as possible, turn my head upside down over the bathtub (this stuff can get the floor sticky) and spray quite a bit of it over the length of my hair. Scrunch and then plop. A lot of days I use the spray gel and a hard hold gel too.
One warning, it have an ingredient it in it that some people find drying and can leave hair frizzy. I think it's the magnesium sulfate. Though it actually enhances the ways in my hair without any negative side effects. I also really like the Garnier Fructis spray gel, which doesn't have that ingredient in it.
I'm considered KCCC for a while now. Maybe I'll actually get around to trying it.

A loose wave is wonderful, although I love curls of every type.

HairObsessed - thanks for your post! I decided not to try the spray gel because my hair hates mag sulfate. HATES! But I do want to find a good spray gel cause I agree it could be easier to apply. I tried Pantene Curly Hair Spray Gel, but it does not have enough hold at all.

What do you switch it around with?
After ive researched the Cg im planning on 1. Clarifying shampoo 2. after that start a Low-poo (maybe Shea Moisture)3. and maybe cycle it with co-wash (sauve natural coconut or as i am co wash) 4. leave in (KCKT or As i am ) and 5. styling (KCCC and the gel)
These are my tentative plan. Please suggest any product that might help. Tell me if some might be heavy and also when you use gel does it harden the hair?? Thank you

I posted about this on it's own thread, but in case you didn't go there, I've just tried MopTop products and they have made a huge difference in my frizz level. For the first time I'm not feeling product build up. On their web site you can order a sample bundle of products for $8. I ordered the More is More because you get more product, free shipping on samples. They are having a sale till the end of the Oct. 2016, 20% off with code ANNUAL20.
