Preventing Mascara on Browbone . . . .

WurlyLoxWurlyLox Posts: 4,858Registered Users
I've recently started having a problem with getting flecks of mascara on my browbone thru the course of the day - not while still wet when I first apply it. It never used to happen, and I'm not doing anything different, so I think it's that my upper lids are beginning to droop.

I use waterproof mascara, trying all sorts of brands in every price range. The best for me is Maybelline Lash Discovery, but even it does it some - I have to remember to check and rub off an area right in the middle a couple of times a day. I still have oily skin, so that probably contributes. Using a mattifier or shadow base makes no difference.

The only thing that I know of that might prevent it is if I didn't curl my eyelashes, but that isn't an option for me. If I don't curl them, they go every which way so that they look worse with mascara than without - plus it opens up my eyes so much that I look younger and more awake when they're curled.

If they still made Revlon Colorstay Lash Tint or Covergirl Marathon mascara, I'd probably be OK since you practically had to blast both of those off. I've already tried everything that I've found that sounded like it might be comparable.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

When you say mattifier, do you mean a shadow primer? If not, that could help. Perhaps Urban Decay Primer Potion.

I've tried shadow bases, though not that particular one. What has helped the most is SuperMatte Anti-Shine, but it still does it some even with it. I've tried other similar products - which are what I meant by mattifiers - but they haven't worked as well.

Don't know why I didn't think to ask you directly, LOL! Let me know if anything else comes to mind . . . .

Hmmm...if the tips of your lashes are brushing against your lids have you thought about concentrating the mascara at the base of your lashes instead? If that doesnt give enough of an eye-brightening effect, then just lightly apply mascara to the tips.

How do you apply your mascara? Do you hold the wand horizontally, and sweep from the base upwards? Or do you hold it vertically and sweep back and forth? The latter is great for coating all sides of your lashes, but that isnt a good thing in this case. Try wrapping a kleenex around your finger and holding it against the back of your lashes before applying mascara. Hold the wand horizontally. That all should keep you from getting much mascara on the back of your lashes. Or you could use clear mascara on the the tips instead. Other than that, I dont know what to suggest. HTH

A playing card or business card works too.

Sorry, I've been away for a while. Funny, I just read about the business card thing somewhere, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Will try that and the kleenex thing and see if either helps.

I don't specifically apply mascara to the backs, but I'm sure some gets thru, so one of these may help. I hold the brush horizontally and apply it to the length, trying not to get too much on the tips . . . Thanks for the ideas!
