What Natural 'rules' do you break?

bklyn_bellebklyn_belle Posts: 423Registered Users
So I've been on this journey for about three years now, and I realized that it was alot of trial and error to get to this point. In the beginning I was a total 'natural nazi' who solely used natural products, counted the number of bad ingredients and other anal things. Now I do whatever I want! Here's some things I've done (hey, rules are meant to be broken):

- Dyed my hair a million colors (blonde, black, red, carrot top, purple, and now the ends are hot pink)
- Use generic styling products including hair grease from the beauty supply, Miss Jessie's, hair spray
- Use gel for every style...no not Eco styler...AMPRO baby!
- Used a curling iron on my straightened hair

Granted I do have healthy practices but I like to have fun as well! What about you, do you break the traditional 'natural hair rules'?
Texture: proud 4a (3c at the nape).
Regimen: co-wash everyday.deep condition, de-tangle and seal once a week.
Current Favs: Treseme Naturals shampoo & conditioner, wide tooth comb, coconut oil, Shea Moisture curling smoothie, ampro clear styling gel .
Protective Style: buns

I've done a couple bad things:

I've put lemon juice in my hair to lighten it...
I use drug-store brands that sometimes have silicones and chemicals in them
I don't trim my hair as much as I should

I used to never wear a hair bonnet or sleep on a satin pillowcase, too! I was such a badbad :/ lol
3C, fine/med texture, normal porosity, high elasticity, very defined spiral

Holy Grail Products: TRESemme Naturals conditioner, my mango/shea butter mixture, Apricot Kernel Oil, Coconut Oil, EVOO & Cantu Shea Butter

I use cones, I shampoo all the time (otherwise I'd have fish jizz in my hair) I'v e bleached, dyed my hair.

But does using cones make you not natural?

What is natural? all I can think of is anti relaxer/texlaxer/all that other shizz

I do not break any rules! HAHA

No fo real tho'. I started using a blow-dryer (tension method) to stretch my hair before styling for the week. WHAT A DIFFERENCE THAT MAKES!!!!

I use a sulfate free shampoo every week. I don't use cones (they are the devil to my hair). I stay pretty natural in terms of products.

I dye my hair (if loving you is wrong.. I don't wanna be right) , and when I can't find my big tooth comb I comb out my hair with ...dare I say it :glasses1: a rat tail comb. The natural community is not pleased with me :sad3: :protest:

I check the scent more than the ingredients.

I don't really read labels and I do not research unpronounceable ingredients. I do check to make sure there is little to no coconut anything and I keep it moving.

I use IC Fantasia Tea Shampoo whenever I feel I have build-up and need to clarify (while I don't think this is "bad" it is stripping and even if it is bad, I don't care, my hair loveth it).

I always comb (finger combing too) root to tip (kanye shrug).

I always lay my edges down with gel if they are going to be seen.

Besides these few...I'm a good "natchal".

    ...i'm supersonic

I also comb from root to end. Kinda. I pass the comb until it gets stuck, then go end to root up until the stuck point. I have no idea why.

    Otherwise, I'm a good girl! :D
My hair is in the 4s, low in porosity, high in density and coarse. :happy6:

    Rules? What rules? Haha

Not really a natural rule but a general hair rule I have seen the "experts" say is don't condition all the way to the roots. Supposedly the oils from the scalp make this not needed. Somebody forgot to tell my roots that. My roots get really dry if not conditioned and moisturized.

HAHA if I really want to try it I just go for it aslong as it doesn't have olive oil in the ingredients that is my hair's worst enemy.

The tension method is really difficult for me, unless I'm combing through it my hair will take forever to stretch. Its super resiliant!

I use a fine toothed comb, or for some.. the fact that I use combs in general. But I need and love them.
I also brush wet hair, sue me.

Idk if this is breaking any rules but I've been on a 2mth no-wash streak and my hair still looks good, doesn't smell, isn't dry, and is soft.
I don't use shampoo and conditioner, but only deep conditioner(saves a lot of money lol).

I don't really deep condition. I also pull my ponytails and buns a little tight sometimes. I scratch my scalp when washing (can't help it--feels soooooooo good).

I'm not too bad. It's my undying love for shampoo. Sometimes I feel lazy and skip wash days and don't moisturize my hair.

    Besides this I'm pretty good.:binky:

Sulfates for me... I tried the whole sulfate free routine and my scalp paid the price. My scalp is just way too oily. If I don't wash it for a few days it literally feels like I lathered chunks of my hair with Blue Magic. :sad5: So I've gotten into the routine of washing twice a week instead of once. Also, surprisingly using neutralizing shampoos has really cut down on the roughness and porosity problems after "normal" shampoos. I'm guessing it has to do with the lower pH.

I say whatever works for you, go for it!

Don't sleep with my hair covered, or on something silky. Highlighted my own hair. Comb from root to tip. Sometimes when I can't find a comb I part with a pen or a mechanical pencil. Sulfate poos. Scratch my scalp a lot.
Not a rule for many, but I don't protective style, I get bored to quick. Um, that's all I can think of :)

Oh, I forgot I do that too! I don't wash in sections. I wet, shampoo and massage scalp. Rinse apply conditioner, detangle in sections, twist, (deep condition), rinse.

Yes, many here would be running scared...lol
