(SATIRE) Ann Romney asks: "Why should women be paid equal to men?"

wild~hairwild~hair Posts: 9,890Registered Users
“Why should women be paid equal to men? Men have been in the working world a lot longer and deserve to be paid at a higher rate. Heck, I’m a working mom and I’m not paid a dime. I depend on my husband to provide for me and my family, as should most women… and if a woman does work, she should be happy just to be out there in the working world and quit complaining that she’s not making as much as her male counterparts. I mean really, all this wanting to be equal nonsense is going to be detrimental to the future of women everywhere. Who’s going to want to hire a woman, or for that matter, even marry a woman who thinks she is the same, if not better than a man at any job. It’s almost laughable. C’mon now ladies, are you with me on this?”

— Ann Romney, the most horrible person ever

    Is this for real?

I had a hard time imagining anyone who thinks this way has an ounce of introspection or intelligence

Yea....she needs to STFU and have a damn seat.

We should be happy just to be even working...OMG

Can we banish her to ignorance corner indefinitely? She (and her husband, who must think the same way) do not deserve to be anywhere near influential position ANYWHERE.

    Wait...what?

My coworker and I are the same age, so we've been in the working world for the same amount of time. You better believe I expect to be paid the same as him.

Hey! Hey, you guys, remember when we all thought Sarah Palin was bad. ahahahahaha! Those were the days....

lmao, I felt slightly guilty for deleting someone on fb who put a picture up explaining how they loved Romney, now not so much.

Come on son, she playing right?

Eta: even if it is a joke, you've heard her talk? she spews B.s. like that naturally, only a matter of time before she actually does say it.

Well, if you think about it in certain cases, no, women and men shouldn't be paid equally. Like it or not a male can often do more work than a woman. That doesn't mean they always do more work, just that they can.

If you're paying people to move tons of rock, and a male can move 100 lbs every lift and a female can move 50 lbs every lift.... well, the male is more efficient, thus doing more work.

Granted, the way this (the article) presented it was a bit overboard. But on basic principal alone, no, we are NOT equal, and sometimes that's okay. We play off of each others strengths.

The issue is more that X amount of dollars are paid for "menial" labour such as moving rock, which is generally done by men as they tend to have the attributes to do this well, as you pointed out. A lesser amount of dollars is paid for "menial" labour such as cleaning or caregiving which tends to be done by women who are attracted to this kind of work.

Made me think of the Lilly Ledbetter act Obama passed when he came in office.

My FedEx delivery person is a female and she has brought some serious furniture to my door. I questioned her ability one time but she proved me dead wrong. She BETTER be paid what her male counterparts make because she's doing the "rock moving" Pretty darn well. Women & men doing the exact same tasks should be paid the same.

Even though it's satire, there are plenty of women (and men) out there who do think like that.

    For sure!

If men and women are doing the same work, they should get the same pay.

I barely saw the word "satire" in the thread title. I hope everyone reading this realizes it is not something she said. I don't mind people not liking someone, some party, etc., as long as they quote them correctly. I hate these emails that float around making people think they are true when, in fact, they aren't. Wish people would all take the time to look something up. As I said, I now see where satire was tacked on to the end of the title. Just hope everyone sees that word.

But you can bet while that woman is pushing 50 lbs of rock, she's also fixing dinner, washing clothes, braiding hair, sewing curtains, ordering the next shipment of rocks, cleaning up behind herself and blogging about it!:pr:

    You mean like death panels?

Oh, wait, you don't mean like that.

This is the difference between Democrats and Republicans.

Democratics will make jokes [Daily Show, The Onion, the site linked here in the OP] about the other side, which are sometimes erroneously taken as truth [as I mistakenly did here] despite clear signs It's Not Actually the Truth.

Whereas Republicans have been know to purposefully create lies and spread them around. They do it because they know the original lie has a gazillion times the sticking power of any attempt to expose it for what it is.
    - See Sarah Palin and death panels.
    - See voter ID laws, meant to curtail the made-up boogeyman of voter fraud [when what they really want to do is disenfranchise voters who aren't likely to vote Republican]
    - See just about any page from the Republican playbook.

^ We have Carl Rove to thank for all that.

I actually see Dems getting in on this action with demonizing Paul Ryan.

The whole thing honestly makes me sick. But make no mistake, Republicans perfected the art of circulating untruths to garner support for their side.

My post wasn't to imply something just against Democrats. My husband and I get all kinds of emails from people on both sides of the spectrum forwarded as truth when, in fact, all they had to do was to research it before passing it on. As I said, I saw where satire was added to this; but when I first read it, I hadn't seen the word. My first thoughts were no woman, Democrat or Republican, would say such things. I would just hate to see anyone think that any woman, Ann Romney or Michelle Obama or whoever, would make statements worded this way if they didn't say such things.

I overheard a guy in Target telling someone on his phone that he tries not to spend his money in Target because they don't support our troops or in Starbucks because they support terrorists. I wanted to say, yeah, I get those emails, too. And then my brain kicks in and I CHECK THEM.
