Frizz

Hi friends I just want to ask some questions.

What would I do with my frizzy hair? I feel that my constant ponytail (starting from childhood, because I seem like born with frizz) is damaging my curls, even if I wear it very loosely. The curls below my ponytail line are now just frizzy waves. And I can't wear my hair without a ponytail because it poofs and looks like a triangle, and the weather is often really warm. My hair is too short for braids either. It feels like my hair strands are mad at each other so they keep a far distance. :?

Also, if I grow my hair long, would it become less frizzy? My hair is shoulder length. My mother always tells me that I should keep my hair short to keep it healthy, but my hair used to be long and it looked better that way.

I have yet to find sulfate free and cone free products. Right now I shampoo once a week and condition everyday and deep condition with coconut oil once a week. Does anybody know curly-friendly products in the Philippines?

My hair is somewhat 2c, if that helps.

Thanks for any reply! :hello2:

Growing your hair long will not reduce frizz. Your hair genetics, hair care routine, and local climate are what determine frizz.

Your routine is sound. You should consider a styler too.

A couple hair friendly updos are the cinnamon bun (and buns in general). If your hair is too short for that, twist your hair like you're starting a bun, then put the tail against your head pointing up, then secure the end with a claw clip.

If I didn't as a styler my hair would be a frizzy mess. I'm a big believer in leave-in conditioners. For my hair, they provide a foundation that helps prevent frizz. I use a curl enhancer (curl cream, jelly or pudding) and then scrunch in gel on top to hold the curls.

The triangle shape you are describing can be fixed with a good haircut and likely with layers. It can be tricky to find a stylist who is good with curly hair.

Health food stores or natural/organic sections in grocery stores are often places where you can find sulfate free options. If you are avoiding sulfates you should also avoid silicones and mineral oils. They can be difficult to get rid of without sulfates.

Thanks! Yes I also tried a layered cut but my hair is still poofy. I guess it's because I can't find a good stylist. Everyone here has straight hair, and if they got some waves or curls, they straighten it. It's so sad.

I haven't tried leave ins before so maybe I would have to go and test some to find what works (and I hope I find a cone-free one). I would also try to enter health food stores.

    Thanks. :)

you could try to go sulfate and silicone free to see if that helps your frizz. I picked up everything to start my CG routine from Kroger for about 10 bucks. :)

I also have 2c hair and its pretty thick. I've just accepted that i have big hair. :D

    • normal elasticity on top, none on the underneath
    • Fine side of Normal
    • Thick hair
    • Poriosity is a mystery. I think its all over the place.

You can simply leave in some of your regular conditioner.
