Does my hair need protein or not?

My hair type is about 4b and im transitioning. My hair isnt as soft as it used to be and Ive never done a protein treatment before.. I just never really knew much about protein and hair until reading a few posts about it online. Should I just do a protein treatment anyway, seen as I havent done one or wait till my hair really feels straw-like?! Im really confused!
And if anyone could tell me some easy, homemade recipes that would be a great help! Thanks in advance!!

therefore could use protein. Fine hair usually likes protein.
Sounds like you might benefit from protein. Let me know how it goes.

I have been looking for the answer to this particular question. I Big Chopped in March/12 and I had grown out my perm since September/11. I wondered if you BC'ed, do you still have damage and need these protein products to strengthen your new grown out hairs?
Protein is to clog up holes from damage but if you have hair that is not damaged then PROTEIN is not important, right???
