Stretching kinky/coily hair without heat?

Aerogirl530Aerogirl530 Posts: 135Registered Users
I've been experimenting with stretching my coily kinky 4a hair. Since I've been experiencing lots of one strand knots. I tried banding, blowouts, and tension blowouts. But I want to find other ways, any suggestions? Anything would help.

Have you tried stretching creams like Miss Jessie's? I've never tried them myself. I use pomade though haven't done this for awhile because I don't like how it feels on my hair.

Try two-strand twists, wrap them around your head, and let dry then take down.

That's sounds like it is worth trying! How would I "wrap" them?

Too much work. Not enough patience. The banding method would take me around 2 days to get a twist out. I like to twist my hair and the next day I take it down. Banding I have to band it one day, twist it the next, then twist out. And with both methods my twist outs end of stringy looking.

i second this. a heavy moisturizer and twists will definitely stretch your hair if you give it sufficient time to dry. bantu knotting the twists or securring them in a bun at night will stretch them even more.

Naptural85 has a video on stretching a twist-out. She takes each twist and literally pulls wraps it around her head then secures each twist with a bobby pin.

I pineapple my braids and it stretches them just fine.

Actually, just last night I watched that! What a coincidence! I just need some pins, but in her video she flat twists it, does it matter if I just do a 2 strand twist or do I have to do a flat twist?

Lol I'm sure it does. I tried that once as well a while ago but I'm just a slow twister and braider so things take me longer than it usually would. :/ but yeah I liked it but it was too much work.

I never do braidouts on freshly washed hair because of this.

I tried that and I liked it. This is what I came up with.
    Pic 1- Shrunken twist out
    Pic 2- Stretched twist out
It stretched a lot. I love it!

My best advice to you is to use shea butter. it weights the hair down while stretching it. you can do braids or twist with the shea. Also rebraid/twist every night.
