Vegetarian 'Atkins' Diet

Anyone interested?? I have a lot of information that I've printed out and I am going to put together a fitness and healthy eating plan.

I eat eggs and diary so it's not hard for me to get protein. I am looking to lose about 10lbs from now until August 31st.

Wanna join me?

I'm already a low-carber, but an omnivore. I know you did this one for the vegetarian ones, but you could search the main low carb thread for ideas as well.

Oh yes, the main low carb threads do have some very good ideas. That's what inspired me to start one for a vegetarian version. I know that anyone who is low carbing can have tasty, healthy recipes that do not involved meat.

I'm hoping more people will chime in and we can keep this thread active and going. I am committed to eating like this and would like to get some support and be supportive. :D

Is there a vegan version? I would do it for S&G. :-)

Yes, there is. Just leave off the eggs and dairy products. Don't have to worry about honey on either because it's not low carb. :)

Most of what I've seen makes it sound like vegan low carb is extremely difficult. I'll have to check my sources when I get home.

Yea I tend to agree. Unless somebody was comfortable eating a lot of tofu and other faux-meat products, vegan Atkins would be really tough.

There is actually a book geared towards vegetarian low-carbers. /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FThe-Vegetarian-Low-Carb-Diet-Vegetarians%2Fdp%2F074992649X" class="Popup

Any takers? It doesn't have to be Atkins style per say. I have had a good bit of luck and I am down 8 lbs.

I'm interested in what you've found. I'm not necessarily wanting a low carb diet, but I eat a lot of carbs and would like to decrease the amount.

We tried cauliflower pizza crust last week, but it wasn't successful.

You could see if your library has this book.

I have a book that has one chapter on it. It seems a lot more difficult than an omnivore version. Beans, fruit, and grains are limited on low carb, depending on your personal carb tolerance. Those things tend to be used a lot in vegetarian diets.

Im also interested in what you've found. I'm a vegetarian and did do Adkins successfully last year to lose 10 pounds. I want to do it again.

i'm not vegetarian. i still eat seafood but no chicken, beef or pork since february. it is harder to get pure protein. i'm drinking a 99% lactose free greens and whey drink in the mornings that doesn't upset my stomach and gives me 20g of protein and i feel full even by lunch. i just try to cut bad carbs a lot.
