I think that one is really cute! Not frumpy!

Like most things, I think it really depends on the specific tunic, how it fits your specific body, and how/when you're wearing it.

A tunic like that, while you're sitting in a beach chair, especially with some great sunglasses and earrings (for example), is not at all frumpy IMO.

However, if it's just hanging on you (look at the pic...the girl's sticking her hip out so it doesn't look like a sack) and you're wearing ugly flipflops and a dirty bag, then yeah, frump city. But that kinda goes for any article of clothing!.

I think the biggest issue with a beach tunic is that it clearly looks like you're not wearing pants...some beach cover-ups you can just throw on and walk around the boardwalk or whatever, go have a drink at the resort, etc. But a tunic like this, as soon as you step away from the immediate vicinity of the beach blanket it's like "hey, someone forgot their pants". I find it much more limiting than so many other cute cover ups for that reason.

I think some of them are frumpy. The ones that look better on me are the thin chiffon type materials that cling to my body, otherwise they make me look wide and generally dont have much shape(looks like a paper bag) and couple with long sleeves, real frumpy. I'm sure some of the better cut ones would look nice but they tend to be more than what I'm willing to spend on a pool coverup. Maybe next time for a vegas pool party.

I found one at Kohls of all places. It looks like a big white shirt-I think I paid $15. I like it. I also just picked up a beige coverup at the banana republic outlet for 12.99

I have a similar one in brown and always get compliments on it.

Love that I can throw it on to go to the bar, the room, whatever and not have to worry about getting fully dressed or just walking around in my swim suit.

I think its cute, but it depends ob your body type. I feel like it would look frumpy on me.

Medussa, I can't imagine anything looking frumpy on you. I'm sure you could pull it off.

I do not find them frumpy, but I do find them adorable. I have a silk blend one in chocolate brown with turquoise, white, and orange beading. I love it.

Worn out iPhone. Need I say more?

My husband says when he retires he's going to wear muu-muus ever day. Well, he specifically said dashiki. I think dashikis are just muu-muus from another continent.

If worn in the correct setting not frumpy.

If worn on someone who carries themselves in a slouchy way it could be frumpy.

The specific one posted by the op would likely look pretty fabulous on you given your coloring and body type.

She's shared lots of pictures of herself. She's flipping gorgeous. If I looked like her, I'd share pics frequently too.

Hey! I leave for a day and I come back to awesome compliments.

    Thank you! :love7:

I'm wondering about these tunics because I went to a party on the water and all of the women were wearing them. The women all looked like they fell out of a Lily Pulitzer catalog. I definitely felt out of place in my tankini top and denim short shorts (it was a really hot that day and I didn't want to show up in a bathing suit). I never really saw myself in a beach tunic and have always considered them frumpy, but maybe it's because the ones I've seen are shapeless. I've used sarongs though.

I guess I'll do some online shopping to find something that'll I'll feel comfortable in without totally conforming. :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

ND, I laughed when I read your comment about the muumuu. All paths will lead to the muumuu.
