Find the right shade of foundation

I swear I can never find the right shade of foundation! Its annoying. What are some easy ways to figure it out. I get my make up from Walmart (I dont want to spend 40 on a little thing of foundation) And there is no natural light and I'm not sure if you can return make up. CVS i know you can but its more expensive there.

I understand this. And how you can't afford Mac or higher brands. What I do is search the foundation I wanna purchase on youtube and there's tons of reviews of ladies on there, and I find someone who matches my skin tone and see what shade they got. They show it in natural light and show swatches ect. It helps.

Another way to do this is to get matched at MAC or some other department counter and get a sample of the product(don't forget to write the same down somewhere incase it fades!) they'll usually tell you about your undertones, etc. Then you can take this information and go on youtube/blogs and see if you can find a dupe for the formula and color (thanks to the undertone information you now have) in a drugstore brand.

I've been trying stick foundations and they don't seem to change as much as liquid or creams for some reason. I don't know if you can find much selection in a drugstore for a stick type foundation. As the saying goes "I feel your pain!"
The suggestion to get tested at MAC is very good because they have so many colors but in my experience the MAC people don't give out samples. You might try a Sephora if you live near one - they've given lots of samples to me and that really helps. Also, Estee Lauder will give you a free sample which is supposedly in your best foundation color. Any Estee at any dept. store will do this.
Good luck with this. I'm actually beginning to think I'll conquer the whole hair thing before I conquer the foundation thing!!! :banghead:
Highly porous. Color over grey.
I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....

Both walmart and target have super return policies. As long as you have that original receipt they will take it back
Finding the right foundation is super hard, it took me forever to find the one that just disappears into my skin. I caved and bought Benefit 'Hello Flawless' liquid foundation since it made me so happy, I wear it everyday (and for me that everyday use justifies the higher cost, I'm still on my first bottle from April).
If you have tricky skin tones water based foundations allow for a little translucence, thus letting your natural skin tone to come through a little. Heavier silicone ones, though giving a more 'flawless' look have much less wiggle room, in my experience, in terms of color.
I know covergirl.com has a whole skin tone matching quiz to go through and it then puts a little pink dot next to every product that would complement your skin tone on the website.
