Ann Curry leaving Today

What's this all about?

They're blaming bad ratings on her bc the chemistry btwn her an Matt was off?

Who gives a rat's asz about the chemistry btwn them?

What did Meredith do that was so much more compelling and entertaining than Ann?

I just don't get this stuff (and I have a journalism degree!!). When i watch these shows, I want to hear the local weather, if anything noteworthy happened on Capitol Hill, and maybe something a little interesting for the water cooler.

I want the stories well researched and clearly reported. If I can get a glimpse of the anchor's shoes, cool. But I really don't give damn about the playful banter or sexual tension or witty repartee or whatever btwn these two people.

    I agree.
I didn't need or want my newspeople to be "stars."
Their banter often got on my nerves.
    Just gimme the news!

i feel sorry for ann curry. she's a good journalist. she waited patiently while they replaced katie with meredith even though she had been the stand in for all those years. she's good, talented and respected. i'm sorry. when i first heard of this it reeked of racism. is the chemistry off because they can't see an asian woman and a white guy leading a top show? from what i understand ratings were only down one week to abc. you can't tell me they were never down, not one single week with the previous hosts. i hope ann curry gets something good for all her years in the field.

    That's what I think.

I think that Ann Curry is a horrible on-air interviewer/host, she's awkward, clearly ill at ease and asks really stupid questions. (I remember cringing when she interviewed Edward P. Jones, author of The Known World.

BUT she is a solid journalist, particularly in the international arena and didn't deserve this treatment. I also could give a rat's ass about on-air chemistry between the hosts.

I used to watch The Today Show every a.m. to hear the news. I haven't watched it in years, too much fluff. Yuck.

I agree. As the program's lead, the anchor position also requires charisma. But Curry doesn't have that.

I also think her departure could have been hastened by Matt Lauer. idk though (of course)...I read somewhere that he once had an affair with Natalie Morales. Maybe Curry wasn't ready to drop trou to get ahead.

I agree with paragraph one. She always seems awkward. Almost like she is trying too hard. Dunno.

I love Ann Curry. However, I don't think co-anchor of the Today show is a good fit for her. She did really well in a supporting role but I don't get the feeling that being out front is natural for her.

I really like Hoda Kotb and wish she'd get the job. We already know she can do it because she's great on her show with Kathie Lee. It's KL that I can't stand.

I actually like Natalie Morales too but the drama with Matt is a distraction that I'm not interested in. All those rumors were originally in the National Enquirer and haven't been confirmed on the record by anyone that I can find.

I think this is a good move in the long run. I like Ann Curry as a person but thought her move to co-anchor with Matt was not a good one.

I have always thought that she had terrible chemistry with Matt Lauer and Al Roker and she is very awkward during interviews and in ad lib situations.

I wish her the best but this was not the job for her.

    What rumors?

Supposedly Matt and Natalie had an affair while at the Torino Olympics.
I haven't got the slightest idea how to change people, but I still keep a long list of prospective candidates just in case I should ever figure it out.

I googled! I did not know he is the suspected father of one of Morales children. Rumored, of course.

i like ann curry's news reporting style and i like her but look at this interview with brad pitt: she stepped over the line by touching him and she's just so awkward

i don't think it's racism but rather a coldness about her and dare i say a lack of sexiness. i think america needs to have a more cutesy, ditsy or physically sexier woman who doesn't mentally overshadow matt. (sadly)

i don't know what it is but no matter what woman is around as co-anchor, the woman always seems to manage to keep her head a slight bit lower than the man's. (theoretically i mean)

Yikes, that interview! It's not even the touching thing, it's the questions she asks him and his need to steer her in a different direction.

Here's the vid of her announcing her departure. It was very sad. I'm not sure what she means by her "groundbreaker" comment. I guess she meant as an Asian anchorwoman...

frau your comments and pics help me see the situation differently. thanks!

and i did not know the scope on natalie/matt. she's got a column in latina magazine which i read. i'm pretty sure it's her. talking about balancing motherhood. i never knew. i knew matt and wife were rumored to have issues.

yep natalie writes for latina good stuff too....

man i did not like that video!!! it seems like she's admitting she did something wrong. who gets fired and has to acknowledge it like that publically. booo nbc!! and booo today show!! if she was that good as they are all saying she could have kept her damn job. ick! this is not the way to handle journalistic professionals.

I think she's been great at anchoring! I do love her out in the field so that will be good. It's pretty carpy how they sent her off without fanfare. Other anchors got the whole video montage goodbye.

This whole thing reminds of the Conan/Leno debacle. Boo, NBC!

I did not understand the reason for her to have to do the good bye show. It was just uncomfortable and odd.

I watch the today so every morning. I like Ann Cury but I feel she is a better field journalist than an anchor. There are so many rumors going around like Regis joining Kathy Lee and Hoda taking Ann's spot :( I cannot stand their segment Kathy Lee is soooo annoying. As for Matt he has been rumor to have slept with Whitney Houston's niece. Lol who knows. However who I do like is Tamron Hall.

I know I am late to the party but I agree with everyone's sentiments. I always found her interviews to be somewhat forced and awkward and not at all natural. I agree that she is a great correspondent and seems to have a great way with dignitaries but the common folk and celebrities always come off weird.

I did feel badly for her upon seeing her announcement because I think she took it as a personal attack on her character, which is understandable. I always liked her personality and found her to be sweet and sympathetic.

That was odd...did they say WHY she's leaving, other than to become a special correspondent? Sounds like a demotion.

    I always thought her low-pitched voice was a put-on.

I think it was a demotion. I hear ratings went down after she began co-hosting and that Good Morning America beat out the Today Show recently for the first time in many years. But that happened around the time when Robin Roberts had her health issue announcement.

I do feel badly for her. It's a messed up situation. I like Ann Curry; I just didn't think she was the best in that role. I've actually met her and she was very nice. (She called me pretty...hee!).

Ha, I grew up watching the Today show and I never thought anybody watched GMA.

I think how NBC handled the situation was terrible for poor Ann. They leaked it to the press that she was getting let go instead of just letting her decide how she wanted to announce her departure. I doubt the ratings dip had much to do with her anyway, as much as it has to do with the fact that the Today show has become Inside Edition AM.
