Highlighting methods

My hair is naturally dark brown but I like caramels. I had my hair highlighted with the cap method and loved the results. However my hair is too long and thick for it now. I decided to dye my whole head a dark golden blonde and i'm not too pleased with the end result. It looks very unnatural which the highlights did not. Also too reddish with some blonde in there. I'd like to stay in the brown family and want a more natural look. I'd like to know which highlighting methods are more practical for long, thick, porous curly hair.

For curly hair you usually need chunkier highlights for it to look nice in the natural state so maybe look up slice highlights
