It's really just a function of your age. Periods just seem to be kind of wacky when you're that young. If it's really troublesome you could ask your mom to put you on the pill.

It's very common to have irregular periods when they first start. Many women find that they eventually fall into a regular cycle.

I started when I was 12 and my period didn't become regular until recently and I'm almost 16. Mine was due to being really overweight and having anxiety issues

I'm 30 and mine are still all over the place. Better than they were but not textbook regular.

The only thing that will get your period regular is the pill but I'm not really a fan of that for growing girls unless there is a real medical need.
Fat does not make you fat. It's actually pretty important.

You may get your period after 5-7 weeks instead of 4 weeks. The 28 day cycle is just an estimate. It's really common for people to have longer or slightly shorter cycles, especially at your age.

Are you trying to predict when you'll get your period each cycle? If your cycle's irregular (like most teenagers), then you may have to look for other signals. When I was your age I could always tell from changes in my acne, lol

I don't want to freak you out, but I'm going to give you an idea of worst case scenario because I lived it. Chances are, you will not deal with anything nearly as crazy. I started my period two months shy of my 13th birthday. I didn't see it again for almost a year, and it was all over the place after that. I had what my gynecologist referred to as irregular irregular menstruation- not only did the time between vary, (2 months, 8 months, everything in between), but when I finally got my period it was abnormally heavy and lasted much longer than it should have. I ended up on the pill when I was 16 after 3 straight weeks of heavy bleeding. I tried coming off of the pill several times but things got wonky every time, so nearly 20 years later I'm still on the pill.

On the other hand, one of my best friends in high school got her period and from the beginning was on a perfectly synchronized 29 day cycle.

Most teenagers start off somewhere in between those two extremes. Unfortunately, everyone really is different and it's impossible for any of us to tell you what your body is going to decide to do. Be patient, and if you do have any major issues, ask your mom about seeing a doctor.

This is something I know quite a bit about, as I have a disorder called PCOS and didn't have regular periods for years. First of all, you are at the age where things will normally be irregular, so don't panic yet. Also, and VERY IMPORTANT...do not go on the pill at your age or in your teens. If you do have a true hormonal disorder like I do, it will impede your ability to fix it in the future when you want to have babies. Plus, putting synthetic hormones in your body can cause depression, anxiety, acne in some cases, skin damage, etc.

Getting regular moderate exercise, staying active when you aren't exercising (ie don't loaf around the house too much), eating well, and watching your carbohydrate intake/eating protein with every snack and meal should straighten you right out when your body is ready. No matter if you have a true chronic disorder or not. If you don't establish good habits now, things will be more complicated and hard to treat in the future.

The two last posts had good information. But I just want to remind you that it's really likely your irregular cycle is just normal puberty stuff :)
