how are you weird?

goldencurlygoldencurly Posts: 2,385Registered Users
I cannot shave my legs because it aggravates my eczema. However, I can use those stinky lotions that dissolve the hair away. How can toxic chemicals be easier on my skin???

That's just one of my many, many weird-isms :toothy4:

What's yours?

I talk to myself allllll the time.

It's not like I have an dialogue were I answer questions that I ask myself or anything and have a full on conversation with myself. I think it's just me thinking aloud. I have plenty of other weird quirks but that's one that's really transparent because sometimes I forget and do it in public! I can't help it. I used to be embarrassed but I'm over it now.

I also love being in the dark.

My dad used to call me his little vampire. I think I must have excellent night vision or something because people are always walking into rooms that I am and say "Can you see anything...?" as they turn on the light. However, it's never really pitch black dark just more dim than most people prefer. I do like it pitch black when I sleep though!

I don't like most cakes/candy/sweets and I'm indifferent to chocolate.
    2/c Coarse hair med. density.
    Highly porous. Color over grey.
I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....

How am I weird? Let me count the ways... I'll be back.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

I whistle a lot, especially at work often without realizing it. People always comment about it to me so it must be unusual. I think I do it because I just constantly have music on in my head so I must let it out either by humming, singing, whistling, or dancing.

I talk to myself all the time, too! Like working my way through problems or just b**ching to myself about the systems or someone high maintenance. The other 3 people in my immediate cubicle area have learned not to pay attention to me unless I pop my head up over the cubicles at them. But they laugh at my personal tirades all the time!

I also have to have white noise in my room when I sleep. Like a box fan to drown out the noises of the city outside and house. If the fan don't work, sleep ain't happening.

I also absolutely have to have a body pillow to sleep. Dunno why, but if I don't have mine, I'll make one out of regular pillows.

I'm pretty particular with my food textures...and my food can't touch on my plate, but that was another thread.

When I'm in a raging bad mood at work, I'll randomly mouth lalalalala to myself. It's from some reduced calorie commercial talking about how dreamy it is and some guy asked if it's dreamier than him singing in a hot air balloon with rainbows or something. I don't know why I do it, but it's a stupid commercial and singing the lalalalala part puts me in a slightly better mood!

I dont like ketchup, american cheese, fishsticks or peanut butter and jelly. Chocolate and peanut butter is wierd to me. I use my car to squish my flamin hot cheetos under the tire before I eat them. Lol

*gasp!* I'm not the only one?! Pastries do not interest me at all. Never have. I always hated cake as a kid, plus I'd much rather eat my carbs in the form of fruit :)

My mother says I'm weird in that I'll eat an apple/banana/6oz container of yogurt over the course of multiple days.

I'm weird in the fact that I know it's ok to be different and it's not abnormal to try to be normal and fit in a group of fake-normal acting people but they're not normal and the person in question is probably more normal than most.

I don't like apple pie, peach cobbler, cheesecake, toffee, butterscotch. I don't like the following ice creams: coffee, mint chocolate chip, strawberry. I talk to my food b4 I eat it. Chocolate and fruit don't go together unless it's a strawberry.....PERIOD. Mint and chocolate don't go together.....PERIOD. I hate rice and beans in my burrito(it's a textural thing). Not really on the Mexican food thing anyhow. When I was in school, I preferred taking a test rather than writing a paper.

I do cheers for no reason. Cheerleading stayed in my spirit from day one(some time in '93). I love peaches and pinapples, but not as a flavor for a beverage. I love bananas, but I find anything banana flavored totally nasty(pudding, smoothies, candy, etc.). Cakes with a fruit filling or flavor is totally nasty. If I make a red velvet cake, cream cheese frosting is out of the question(vanilla bean icing pleez). Oatmeal, no....Cream of Wheat, yes(again a textural thing). Fried okra, totally nasty. My DVD line up includes action, comedy, stand up comedy, Bible stories, and period films(pride & prejiduce, jane eyre, etc.). Bring it On and Bring it On Again are awesome......the rest of them are just plain stupid. I've never seen Menace II Society, but I have seen Steel Magnolias. My stand up comic faves are inconsistent with one another.....Kevin Hart, Jamie Foxx, Jeff Dunham, Jim Gaffigan, the Blue Collar guys, and Latham Ent.

One Sunday I praised my wig right off my head but God wouldn't let me stop so I kept going with it in my hand.....am I weird enough yet???!!!???!!!

I'm always dancing to the music that constantly plays in my head.
I find peanut butter nauseating, literally.
I don't blink often at all, people have to constantly remind me or they feel i'm staring at them.
Lastly I have a very sick gruesome sense of humor.
Oh and i like it dark most of time. Pitch black darkness is very relaxing.

I think there are many ways other people find me weird. But really, I'm just me - and don't try to be anyone else.

One thing which turns out to be less unusual than I thought is I can't drink regular milk but can drink organic. I'm fine with other dairy products, but normal milk gives me massive stomach pains which feel like a knife cutting me open from the inside out. I don't remember how I ended up finding out that was the case, as I stayed away from any type of milk for several years. One of my friends thought he was lactose intolerant and that his lactase pills just didn't help enough until he realized he was fine when he didn't take them for other dairy products. Remembering my situation, he decided to try and discovered that he had to have organic milk as well and would be fine. It just seems weird to me!

I spell out words in my head and group the letters in 2s or 3s. Words that can't be grouped like that I spell over and over again until I'm ok with them. I also rearrange lighters at counters so they are all up front in their display. I have many OCD tendencies though.

I do this too!! Only in groups of 2's, and when it has an odd number of letters I have to keep going until I accept that one is in the middle. I have other OCD tendencies too, most of them related to sleeping:

-closet cant be open at all, even a little crack when I'm sleeping
-I need water by my bed at all times even if I'm not thirsty or it's hard to fall asleep
-same with putting on Chapstick and lotioning my hands before bed

I know there are more that I just can't place right now.

I like to say mundane things in French in a ridiculous sexy Monique Thubert-inspired voice (but only among family).

I'll sometimes hear a trashy song and imagine the same melody done with a classy arrangement (for instance, a Billie Holliday-ish version of Britney's Oops I did it again).

And, oh yeah, I went through this phase where I'd put food in my hair. I blame you curlies for that one!

But bees are cute! (Bees and I have a love-hate relationship. There are millions of carpenter bees around my office and they are so cute and fat. As long as they are at least 10 feet away!).

Anyway, long story short, I can see time. And time has a certain location in space. Like August is larger than the rest of the months and is to the left of me about an arm's length away. Saturday and Sunday are larger than the rest of the days of the week and are the left of the rest of the days. Monday through Friday are listed in order on the right with Friday slightly curving into Saturday... Those are just a few examples...

That's a form of synesthesia. I have that, too, with months, weeks, and numbers. I see them in a certain form in my head, and they have properties that my brain assigned them way back when I was a kid. I used to have colors and animals associated with the alphabet, but I grew out of that part of it.

I don't like words that start with 'cr..', feels odd for me to say them...?

I have a thing about mayonnaise, can't stand it, don't want it around me, and you better not bring it in my house! lol

I plan out my mornings in 5-10 minute increments, helps me to stay on track and be on time for work.

I also like words that have 5,10,15 etc, letters in them. When they don't, I will make sentences out of them in my head so all the letters match up to equal those amounts...My full name equals 15 letters so that relieves me in some way.

I have to do everything in a particular order or I can't remember how to do it.

I am not kidding!!! From showering to damn near walking straight. Teaching me is probably torture because my mind just doesn't process information like a "normal" person.

I discovered this when DH was teaching me how to drive a stick shift car. He got mad because I was using my formula to remember, but he said his was "easier". But shoot, he crazy as hell too! So... :p

I'm sure I will return as there is SO much weird stuff goin' on here. Might as well rename this thread Jennifer's Oddities. LoL!

*If I touch anything in the middle of my hand, I have to do the same exact thing in the other hand (same object, same way of contact, same number of times, etc.).

*Everything I do must equal some incremental form of '3'. It's not always everything, such as every big thing, but, every little thing I do, has to be '3' or a multiple of it. When I see things in multiple form I always address them in 3's. If there is less than three, I add however many it takes to equal three, and, if there's more (and it's not a multiple of three), I disregard whatever additional numbers there are.

Gets me in trouble when meeting people; it's just a mind thing I have an issue with.
