Silicones and oils
I swear, I stay so confused! Every time I think I've got it all figured out, i end up more confused than ever! So here goes... I was under the assumption that non water silicones, sulfates, mineral oil, and petroleum were all best avoided, and natural oils and organic conditioners were best for mOisturizing. However, after reading the info for an upscale salon that specializes in curly hair I am questioning myself. They say oils such as olive and coconut sit on the hair and do not moisturize. They boast jesse's buttercream (baby) or (curls) as the very best moisturizers. Both of these products are full of mineral oil, and petroleum. This retails for $58 for a 16oz jar. I did a little more digging, and discovered that several other high-end products were full of silicones. Some sites say silicones actually dry the hair, while others suggest they are great moisturizers. Let me know what you guys think. Personally, I feel like if I wanted a product full of mIneral oil, I would just go to the dollar store and get it for about $3.50
