Henna on Colored Hair

pinkroszpinkrosz Posts: 1Registered Users
Hey, I've been natural pretty much all my life but tend to alter my hair color a lot. ive slowed down with the color tho and im letting it grow out. I want my hair to be completely natural and grow out longer and thicker like it used to be. So my question is about Henna. I've been doing research about Henna and been reading about other testimonies so I really want to try it and see what happens. I have color in my hair now so I do protein treatments once a month to make sure my hair doesn't dry out. I was wondering has anyone used Henna on their hair while it was colored? And how did it work for you? And where did you buy the Henna how did you mix it? my hair color now is like a golden brown mixed with other browns and a blonde streak.

    BUMP

Id like some insight on this as well. I used to lighten and bleach all the time. I have had every color in the rainbow lol but I'm pretty sure that most of that hairhas been trimmed off and now I'm dyed jet black and that's all I've been doing for about 2 years now. My last time dying was in January.

@OP I heard that its really dangerous to henna over colored hair though cus it supposedly causes the colored hair to break (YIKES!). I'm gonna search around and see what I can find online in the mean time.

Henna always made my hair feel thick and strong after using it. It's a very lovely feeling. The first two times I did it was on virgin hair. The first application turned my hair a super flaming orange-red (my hair is naturally light orange), which oxidized more to a natural looking auburn. The second time I used henna mixed with another herb and it was just as bright at first, but was darker and had purply tones to it.

I don't know why I was so stupid, but I decided to dye my hair very dark, which didn't look natural on me. So, a few damaging processes later, I decided to henna it. It turned my virgin hair a flaming red, and the damaged hair that had grown out, it barely affected. It seems henna does not take well to fried hair. However, I did another application just to the ends and it seemed to work better.

I am not sure whether henna had trouble taking to my hair because it was fried or because of the dye. I am posting this picture to show you the basic idea of it. And by the way, I would check if your henna is pure, otherwise it could very well have a really bad reaction to your dyed strands. Excuse my straightened hair here, but the swept-over browner looking locks are parts I've dyed before.
Dense but fine and delicate 3a hair. Feels like a dandelion without product. Difficulties in getting less puff and more definition when short.

Thanks that was very helpful. I've gotten ssooo many warnings about being sure that its pure henna so I'll be sure to order good stuff. Very pretty picture btw

You're welcome. I'm actually planning on henna-ing again tomorrow. Good luck.
