Make a little less curly?

HaleyTheTurtleHaleyTheTurtle Posts: 2Registered Users
I love my hair I just wish I could make it a little less curly than it is. My hair is 3c almost 4 and I can never do ANYTHING with it! The only thing I can do is either put it up in a bun or ponytail (neither look good on me) or put A LOT of gel in it to keep it down, which just makes the curls crunchy and look stiff. I've tried some of the products on here that the articles recommended but none of them did anything. I'm using Suave Naturals conditioner, which is the only thing I've found that doesn't suck the life out of my hair, and La Bella Lots Of Curls gel which is almost the only thing that will keep it down. Is there anyway I could get my curls down to a 3a or 3b without having to pay a crap load on products or perms?

I don't know... going from an almost 4 to a very high 3... it sounds unlikely to me, without treatments at least.
The only thing I can think of it moisture moisture moisture and SOTC since you say you've had crunchy hair with your gel. Once it's nice and dry scrunch your hair until the crunchies are gone.

I agree, I don't see a way that your curls could be relaxed without some kind of chemical treatment. It's not all that bad, as long as you do it the right way. I had a chemical straightening done when I was young because my hair was unmanageable, but I honestly regret it and wish I hadn't done it.

How long is your hair? Sometimes very coily curls look amazing when they are short, almost afro/halo kind of style? That way you would be able to keep your curl and just kind of let it do what it wants(so annoying right :P )

Henna loosened my curl A LOT.

I would think if you had very dark brown or black hair, this would make for a great solution without really changing your hair colour. The henna gives your hair a ton of shine and is not damaging, though some people find it drying. I think it depends a lot on how porous and/or damaged your hair is. I found my damaged ends seemed a bit dry or even slightly brittle. I think the henna just adds so much to my hair.. I went from a 3b-c to 2c and from fine to medium texture. My hair is strong and healthy and is finally adding inches.

If you have lighter hair and are not interested in having red hair, then you can look at other herbal treatments. I've heard Amla can help relax the curl but am unsure of this.

    Good luck!

Try not to use gels in your hair, those gradually ruin them and make them curlier than before (I've seen it happen to many naturally straight-haired people).

You can try using argan oil (like Pro Naturals argan oil) or use a keratin straightening system to relax your hair and make it slightly curly instead of IMPOSSIBLY curly.

I've been hearing good things about the Cocoa Keratin System because it lasts for 5 months and comes with shampoo and conditioner. The whole treatment is safe for hair as it's based on Keratin and the shampoo is based on Argan oil which is very beneficial for hair. Hope this helps!
