Has anyone ever twisted their naked hair with castor, olive, or coconut oil solely after washing and conditioning.

I've done it with just coconut oil but on wet hair. Idk if you mean dry or not. Are you leaving in twists or doing a twistout? For me it was kinda fine in a twistout but my twists don't last long with only using a light oil. :)

So ive followed this womans journey for a LONG time on fotki. I even used to do her detox monthly and it works. I just became lazy about it

I was reading some of her comments and she advised a young lady to do the herbal detox, apply conditioner and then rinse, after rinsing and deep conditioning if you choose to , then twist the hair up with rosehip oil to dry, once its dry you can then protective style with the above mentioned oils.( spritz with a little water or spray, then style)

You should leave the hair alone for 48 hours and then continue on about your merry way after. if you choose to use other products thats fine but once a month the detox ,followed by the simple routine.

I think Im going to try it out when I take this weave out so I certainly will come back when I do it to share if i liked it or not

Im going to use castor oil cause its my baby daddy.

I've been wanting to try this for so long but I always chicken out for whatever reason. There is a young mother on YouTube who started using this method for her and her little girl and she was pleased. I'll see if I can find the video and post it. She did exactly that....washed/conditioned and just twisted her wet hair with oil.

This is what stops me. I think with using only oil my braid out would last only a day.

I'm in the middle of detangling right now. I'm going to go ahead and try it this time. I'll report back with results.

Would using a butter count? It's all fat right?
My hair is in the 4s, low in porosity, high in density and coarse. :happy6:

I'm not sure but I do know that I can just use my butter mixture & it hold fine. But no matter what I use it doesn't last long for me. This is why I prefer to wash & go.

I saw that video. I tried using only EVOO for a wash and go when i was a newbie. My hair turned out dry and greasy. I need my li.

Her method to use oil or butter as long as it's 100% natural/organic

She does use the B5 gel from AO on occasion as well but to use the oil at first to get the hair used the routine

Those who tried it how did it go? I'm really curious, my hair likes certain oils.

Waving hands in the air. I am basically a water, leave in, oil, and butter girl. I only work with damp hair that has been sealed with oil. I have had no issues. When stray away from this methods hair acts wacky.

I have done twists outs only using oils or butters (tried it with olive oil + shea butter and coconut oil only). The results were okay. I suck at doing twist outs, no matter what, so I've never had any amazing results with any method. I did like the results better than when I used products (leave-in, gel/styler, etc).

Ive tried it with coconut oil before.. I really liked it. I actually did it for a couple of weeks but my hair stopped coming out as good.. I think I needed more moisture from the other products I was using but it could have also been a coconut oil overload. Ive been meaning to revisit it. There was also a point shortly after where I used a TINY bit of leave in and a lot of oil, I mean.. a nickle sized amt on my whole head and those results were great.
I want to revisit it with my oil blend im using now (olive, peanut, grapeseed & avocado) since its very rich.. Also, still when I reset my hair in between wash days all I use is oil and water. Dont know how much it counts though since there is product already in my hair..

I haven't tried it but will before I go swimming this summer. I'll use coconut oil on damp hair and style my hair into a chunky twist undo.

This method was okay for me. I used CD's Tui oil (I wished I would've tried coconut oil instead). My hair wasn't dry and it surprisingly had hold to it. I just like the way my braid outs feel better with my Camille Rose AJTB. I had to re-moisturize my hair sooner than usual.

Yes, and I credit this method with my current hair length. I went two years straight of doing this. Washing, deep conditioning, twisting with castor oil and wearing a half wig. My hair reached lengths it never has before. I went natural in 2009 and cut my hair off to about chin length. Started doing this method in 2010, my hair is now tail bone length, with the majority just hitting my waist. I think all the constant manipulation that many natural do with wash n gos...combing, detangling etc leads to unnecessary breakage. I used the unpetroleum castor jelly and applied while hair was wet. It sealed in moisture and lubricated my hair to the extent where it didn't break. Shortening did the trick as well. So yes I recommend it for twist outs and overall protective styling if you are trying to retain length or prevetn breakage.

As soon as I try to forgo the leave-in my hair acts angry. I can't even get away with using rinse outs as leave-ins, and oils don't do anything for my hair unless i'm sealing a product. For me, a leave-in is mandatory.

That sounds like a cool thing to try, though. If my hair wasn't so brand new about oils I'd love to give it a go.

I've done this twice with coconut oil. Both times I got great definition but the oil just stayed on top of my hair. Hair was dry but oily.

Thought about trying a different oil but I think I would get the same results. I have low porosity hair.

That's basically all I use. For the past month its been deep condition, with docotred up dcer, oil scalp and hair and twist with butter, or
Spray with acv water, oil, then butter.

My hair is soften and crazy fluffy.

I tried it with grape seed oil once and it did not work out. I tend to use a leave in, an oil, then a butter. Since I have low porosity hair though I have found that this leads to buildup and hair that stays wet for two days. I might try castor oil by itself. I love it on dry hair and it may just be heavy enough to work alone on damp hair. :toothy4:

p.s. Castor oil alone on wet hair doesn't work for me. However As I Am leave in with avocado oil to seal worked quite well. Next time Ill try avocado oil by itself.
