My Plan for Marley Twists!!!!

liyahjayliyahjay Posts: 15Registered Users
I'm getting long marley twists for the first time this weekend, and I want to share the details on the path I want to take. Please tell me if I'm making any wrong turns.

Two days before I get the twists, I'm getting my hair washed, blown out, and plaited. If I can't go to my stylist's shop, then I'm going to wash, blow dry, flat iron and then plait my hair. Don't know if I should oil my scalp then because I heard that it makes the twists slip out so correct me if I'm wrong.
For the twists, I'm using Freetress Equal Marley Braid hair. Heard some good things about it.
After I get the twists, of course they will be tied down at night to prevent frizz. I'm only going to wash my twists once a month for that same reason. When the itching starts, I plan to use a formula I found online that I like to call the Itch Slap. In it, I'll have:

10 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil
25 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil
5 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
1 Tbsp of Castor Oil
5 Tbsp of Olive Oil
3 oz Distilled Aloe Vera

When I had my senegalese twists last year, my scalp itched something serious so my plan is to spray it at least once every two days for 2 weeks, once a day if the itching is too severe. After that, I'll spray my scalp only once a week. I'm keeping the twists in for about 3-4 months.

So there it is. Let me know what y'all think. The source for the Itch Slap is:

Sounds like a great plan! I wouldn't oil my scalp though--it'll lead to faster build up.

I love the braid spray recipe--especially the name. "Itch Slap" Haha

It took me 8 hours to install. A lot less time than when I got my Senegalese twists two years ago

Could you put the twists in without blow drying your hair

You can stretch the hair with bantu knot out, twist out, or banding.
