New Jersey tanning mom denies charges of child endangerment

The New BlackThe New Black Posts: 16,738Registered Users
A New Jersey woman arrested after police said she brought her 5-year-old daughter into a tanning booth said Wednesday that she was innocent of the charges but admits to excessive tanning herself.

Patricia Krentcil, 44, pleaded not guilty to second-degree child endangerment and said outside court that she is a "wonderful mother."

U.S. News - New Jersey tanning mom denies charges of child endangerment

I'm a bit skeptical of the story, as the woman just looks entirely.too.brown. She doesn't look real. The only people I've ever seen that dark are body builders, and I think they use self-tanner.

This is just EXTRA crazy. She's positively radioactive.

I used to have a neighbor who abused her skin badly with natural and artificial sun. She was as sun-browned as this woman. My kids called her "the brown lady".

I first saw the picture before reading anything, and I thought she was wearing blackface. How the hell can anyone tan like that? How many years of constantly tanning does it take?

There has to be a law about children in tanning beds, right? Not that I'm at all okay with the mother's actions, but I'm really concerned that the salon allowed it.

It's illegal for anyone under 14 to tan in NJ.

Then that salon needs to be heavily fined at the very least.

The mother pulled her into the bed when the staff was distracted...LOL

    Gross. Unbelievable.

This woman has more issues than just over use of tanning beds.

thanks for posting this, TNB, because i was afraid to... everyone knows how i feel about tanning.

when i saw that woman on tv this morning, i couldn't believe that she was 44, she looks that bad.

the tv piece showed the daughter, a very pale redhead.

mother claims the daughter got the sunburn by being outside on a warm day without sun protection and says she doesn't let the girl go in the tanning booth with her. she said the child was in the room while she used a stand-up booth.

and i have seen white people in Florida with skin that colour.

I thought she had on blackface too. I've seen people look "weathered" for lack of a better word, but white people look that brown? Dang.

One of the moms at my daughter's preschool tans that much. She's about 25 but looks 40, and when I saw her last night at the kids' performance, I had to make myself stop staring because she looked like she was in blackface. It was weird and distracting; it kinda gave me the creeps, to be honest. She looked SO unnatural. Her skin just isn't meant to be that dark!

LOL! It was the one saying that "she looks like poo with hair and eyes" that did it for me. The tinge of her skin isn't even in the realm of naturally-occuring. It looks so off. And it's too bad she looks so bizarre. She has a very beautiful family. I think her daughter's school was jumping at any chance to get the mother's mental state evaluated.

I dont understand the mentality of needing to be tan. I see nothing wrong with natural skin color, even if it's very white, even very white leg skin. If anyone thinks my white legs are blinding, they can kiss my lily white butt.

I don't get it. In her photos, she looks tan, but not that dark. In the video, it looks like she has a TON of bronzer or some other too-dark-for-her makeup on. Regardless, she shouldn't even be bringing her daughter with her to a tanning salon.

Oh dear god. What a freak. She honestly looks at least 64. And I'm being generous.

I don't have a problem with people wanting to tan (everyone has their.."thing")..but this just seems so extreme and terribly unhealthy. The lady literally looks like she's wearing blackface as well.

It's obvious she has some things going on mentally that aren't good. It's sad if she's bringing her small child into this mess..her little girl is very fair. So it wouldn't surprise me if the mother was trying to get her tan.

I don't think it's a hoax but do think some folk have been doctoring some of the photos out there.

First picture on the right looks like it was either photoshopped or there was a lighting issue. The last one does too, come to think of it.
  • midgimidgi Posts: 2,409Registered Users
I don't think so, Medussa. Those are video stills from clips that aired on the news. She looked exactly like that on TV too.

I saw the actual video footage on tv as well as on the internet via a news network.. and she looked exactly like that photo where she has on that pink or coral looking shirt. She literally looked like she was in blackface or someone painted her with milk chocolate!

    That whole thing disturbs me.

I have 2 co workers who look like this woman. One is 46 and the other is 28. They both tan in beds all fall/winter and lay out using baby oil mixed with iodine in the spring/summer. They believe it gives them a nice, natural looking hue. It doesn't. I also went to high school with a girl who had to have a face lift at 24 because of excessive tanning. She looked 50 at 19. She hit up every single tanning salon in town, 6 days a week, and laid the maximum time in each bed. She was eventually found out and banned from them.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??
