I saw that and thought maybe there was a mistake. I guess not though. :dontknow: To each their own, I suppose. I hope mom and baby are both doing well.

Ew. That is a very masculine name from such a girlie mom.

I'm not fond of names that will get a kid made fun of for life. Maybe they'll call her Drew (which is still kind of masculine, but a little more androgynous than Maxwell)?

I think it's kind of cute! She could go by Max or Drew - both of which I think are cute nicknames for girls!

Bout' time! It seems like she's been pregnant forever!

I imagine she could be called Maxie for short. I don't see it being any different than other names that were once thought to be masculine.

My middle name is James (After my dad) and I knew a girl named Davis in school.

Max is an awesome nickname for a girl.

Geez, finally. I thought the woman was going to explode or something.

I'm interested how quickly she's going to lose all that baby weight. I remember her saying she gained 50+lbs during the pregnancy.

Why do we even bother having masculine and feminine names?

I wonder how many folks would think it was cute and nice if she'd had a boy and named him Jennifer.
  • xcptnlxcptnl Posts: 15,678Registered Users
I think that names that are masculine work for both (for me anyways) yet feminine names do not. I am not sure why that is.

Well, I don't like the name Jennifer for a girl or boy. :tongue1:

Nicole Ritchie named her son Sparrow which I think is nice. And I wanted to name my second son Lyric which is more of a girl's name.

I know plenty of male Ashleys, Jamies, Kellys, Danas, Shannons, Aubreys, Brookes, and Leslies. I know a male Aria and a male Kim. Some of these were originally boys' names, but they are now associated with girls.

I like the name Drew for girls. Maxwell not so much. As another poster stated, I think it's interesting that she has such a girlie girl personality and chose such a masculine name for her daughter.

Maybe they'll call her Max, or Maxine, or Wellie, or Drew, or MD Johnson.

eta: perhaps she is conducting a brilliant social experiment that will put her daughter ahead of the game. Her masculine name will get her places that a feminine name won't. Imagine calling for Maxwell Johnson, and hearing a woman's voice on the other end. It's a great conversation point.
I just want to do what I want to do when I want to do it.

Jennifer to me has that family name/used to be male sound when I think about it, but Jessica definitely would've caused an uproar if she'd named a baby boy that. Xcptnl, it's because anything coded female is automatically assumed to be inferior. Therefore, a boy saddled with a girl name is to be derided and/or pitied. It's like how people freaked out over some mom painting her son's toenails. *gasp* Girls do that, now he's tainted!!

I also like the nickname Max for a girl.
    OMG, LOOK!!

    ...It's a siggie.

I love boys' names for girls, I think Max is cute. It's not like it's some inane attention-seeking celeb name like Kal El, Audio Science or Inspektor Pilot, I doubt she's going to get made fun of much surrounded by celeb kids with names like that.
I haven't got the slightest idea how to change people, but I still keep a long list of prospective candidates just in case I should ever figure it out.

It's an idiotic name for a little girl. What's wrong with normal, sweet girl names?

I think it sounds cute! The "-ell" can sound feminine and Drew is spunky and sharp and feminized by Miss Barrymore.

I know Jessica gets a lot of hate (not here, but I've seen it other places) but I like her. I think she seems very sweet.

I also don't think it's the worst name in the world. This baby's cousin's name is Bronx, after all. She got off easy.

just "a" girl? thought she might have been having at least 2. (snicker)
despite my swipe at her weight gain, i sure hope she doesn't do some crazy diet to lose her baby weight.
it's okay to be a little plump at first.
    i think it's kinda sexy.

I'm still giving the side-eye at 50lbs. She looks like she gained more than that. I should know, I gained 80lb :)
