Highlights, anyone?

I thinking about getting my hair highlighted again. It's been a long time. I mainly want to do it b/c I have white hairs coming in randomly so maybe it wouldn't be so obvious that way. My hair is naturally dry 3c 4a (I *think* tho still not sure), and it has been hennaed. I only use good henna now but have used questionable henna in the past. So it will need to be done at a salon. Hopefully, I'll pass the strand test and my hair will be in good enough shape to do it. Right now, I'm still not sure if I want to.

Any suggestions? Attempts to talk me out of it?

I have highlights. I got them because they are pretty low maintenance as far as growing my hair out and not having to worry about touching them up often. The only suggestion I have is to make sure they are not too aggressive when lifting your hair color so that you don't lose any curl or kink.

I would love to get highlights but so afraid of damage. I agree with FoxyCleopatraGuide about not overdoing it.

FoxyCleopatraGuide - do you do any protein treatments on your hair?

Really? I think they'd be tough to maintain. I had it easy the last time because they had lightened my general color so much that the highlights blended in super well. It was like basically a dark blonde/light brown color all over. I don't want an all over bleach job again. I never wanted it to begin with. I would think the stringy/piecy highlights would be very hard to do yourself for maintenance and kind of a hassle to go into the salon just for that. IDK... Maybe I'll just stay with henna.

I do protein treatments twice a month. I just add an egg to some conditioner and leave it on for 30 min. I tried Ultra Sheen Duo Tex protein condish and it was way too much for my hair. I tried multiple moisturizing treatments after it, but my hair felt like straw for days.

I blowout my hair when I apply them so that I can see where to place them. I use a coloring brush to paint them on. I have been coloring my own hair for years. I have gotten good advice from a friend of mine who is a colorist. My highlights are coppery which is how I wanted them and it only took about 20 min of processing. Since I don't straighten ny hair, I can go many months without touching them up and they still look good.

Yes, thank you! IDK if I could do a good job with all that. I rarely wear my hair straight, but lightening loosens my curls a lot esp at the roots so it would probably be noticeable if I messed it up! When I retouched mine, I bought a frosting kit and basically applied it all over the roots. My hair was so light colored all over that the highlights weren't very visible so that's how I got away with it.
