There are many causes for brittle nails and split, dry hair, including health conditions and dietary intake. Deficiencies of certain vitamins and nutrients can have a big impact on how strong your hair and nails can be. Increasing your intake of the following nutrients may help strengthen your nails and enhance your hair.


Vitamin C


The body needs vitamin C to make collagen, a component of healthy hair and nails. If you don’t take in enough of this vitamin, you may have thin, dry hair that breaks easily. Your fingernails and your hair may grow very slowly.


Biotin


This nutrient is actually a B vitamin that is produced by intestinal bacteria in the gut. Being deficient in biotin can cause your hair to thin and split, and your nails to become brittle and weak. The American Osteopathic College of Dermatology recommends 2.5 mg of Biotin daily to keep your skin, hair, and nails healthy.


Zinc


People who have white spots in their nails should increase their zinc intake. Eating a hard-boiled egg and drinking a glass of milk each day will increase your zinc and help strengthen your nails.


Keeping your nails hydrated with olive oil, castor oil, or petroleum jelly can help improve the quality of your nails. Rub one of these oils into your cuticle each night before bed.

    i am a guitarist, and i use a lot vitamin E, C for my nails. I usually direct apply them onto my nails, in form of lotion or oil.
