Headbands

What type of headbands work best?

The soft, stretchy ones that go all around your head?

The hard, plastic ones that you wear sort of like a crown?

Bandannas or scarves tied around the head?

Which ones do you like best and which ones hold up your hair without causing a lot of head pain or headaches?

i usually buy the elasticy ones that go all around the head, but they do squeeze and give me headaches. the plastic ones are a bit more comfortable, but they still squeeze. i like the wide cloth ones best, but i cant find any that i really want

    Thanks.

I get the stretchy ones that go around my head and I try to stretch them out so they aren't too tight. But after a few hours, they do hurt my head.

I haven't used the hard ones since I was a kid. But they are coming back into style, so I might pick up one.

I haven't tried a cloth one. They don't seem like they would be supportive enough. I plan on going to the mall this weekend so I'll stop into some accessories stores and try them though.

Has anyone ever tried a hard headband with fabric over it? I was wondering how they look on. Like this one:

Hairboutique.com has a ton of headbands, btw. Some are expensive, but many are reasonable and cute.

I bought one of those on the street last yr. I thought it was cute, but it doesn't look so hot on my head. Since my hair's so big, it kind of pushes the headband up so that the headband doesn't rest flat on my head. It just sort of looks like I have something stuck in my hair.

I love the old-fashioned plastic headbands, but don't think they'd work on me (for the same reason mentioned above).

So, my personal preference (both in terms of comfort and look) is colorful silk scarves.

Thanks for the feedback Susu. Do you use the silk scarves that are pre-made - like a band with little tails?

X-tigerlily, I wear the headbands with the teeth. I also have one of those cotton bands, but I think I have a small head, 'cause it isn't very tight lol. And I absolutely luv bandanas! I have about 10.

I have 2 of the scarf headbands from Hairboutique.com. I like them a lot, just wish they slightly, just slightly, larger since I have a huge head.

    Thanks everyone!

Since I'm trying not to wear my hair in ponytails anymore, I've figured a headband would be a good way to easy myself into an afro hair style. My hair is just so big without something pushing my hair away.

These are a little $$$, but I've heard they're very comfortable. I'm going to order some for me, too. My problem is that the bump on the back of my head isn't big enough. All cloth headbands keep sliding up into a near-ponytail on my head. But I don't like the hard ones because they give me a headache with the way they grip my head. Anyway, here's a link to the ones I'm talking about:
