DMV Area Natural Hair Vendors

Hi all. Just wondering if we could start a thread to post any natural hair product vendors that you know of in the DMV area. A place where one can shop for natural hair products at a brick and mortar shop. There was one in Silver Spring, but they have since closed up.

Ah yes, the Hair and Body Boutique in Silver Spring. I miss it so. Unfortunately, she had to close because overhead costs were to high. I haven't heard of another store in the area since :(

Wasn't she talking about getting a place on Georgia Ave near HU at one point? I haven't heard anything since then.

As far as brick and mortor for natural products, there are a few places to go. The target in my area has the following brands on the shelves:

    Shea Moisture
    Nubian Heritage
    Kinky Curly
    Hair Rules
    Miss Jessies
    Taliah Waajid
    Motions (that new curly line)
    Giovanni
    Queen Helene
    Curls
    Mixed Chicks

There are a few more but this is what I can remember off the top of my head. For the "indie" online brands, there is a BSS in Alexandria Va (Freestyle Beauty) that carries

Curls (the premium line, not the target line)
    Qhemet
    Miss Jessies
    Curl Junkie
    Mixed Chicks
    Hair Rules
And a few others but again I can't remember off the top of my head eveything I've seen in there. Not sure if they have website where you can get a listing of brands but if you are in the area you can always just stop in and check them out. But be warned, they mark up the prices of the products a LOT. I'm talking like a $2-3 dollars on some to way more ($8-10) on others.

Yeah Target has the most brands, there's a place in DC called Senbeb Natural Foods that sells Qhemet but I'm sure it probably does fast. I haven't been in a while.

Wegman's sells Aubrey Organics, Kiss My Face, Giovanni, Avalon Organic's and some other brands
There's a beauty supply store in the same shopping center (Woodmoore Town Centre) that sells a lot of those same brands
Beauty 4 You (the 2 I've been to on Campus Way South & Central Ave) have a lot of the popular brands

I haven't been there in over a year but I didn't know they sold Curl Junkie....which brings me to the 2nd part in blue, this is why I haven't been in over a year because I paid like $21 or $22 for QB AOHC! I was so hard up for it at the time I paid that outrageous price for it. :angry7:

Score! I shop at that Wegmans all the time and never stopped into the BSS. I'm gonna have to take a stroll through there one day. Thanks for the heads up!

They also sell UFD, Darcy's, MHC, Jessicurl and some others. They do mark up the products, especially MHC. I was astounded at the prices of MHC products there.

Hum....see I wonder if these companies know they are marking up the prices. i'm pretty sure they are buying stuff wholesale and not retail and more whole sellers are not supposed to mark the price up over the MSRP. Hummm....time to do some investigation and send a few inqury emails.
