Can I turn my thick, unmanageable curly hair into a fancy pixie cut?

I've been dealing with my hair for years. It's down to my shoulders, thick, curly, and unruly. I can never seem to win; either I use tons of mousse and conditioner and end up with greasy, spaghetti /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FuCj6X.jpg%3F1" class="Popup hair, or I don't use enough and my hair just becomes dry, with this weird clump of extra dry hair /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FARsnq.jpg%3F1" class="Popup smacking me in the face the whole day. I only shampoo about once a week, and condition every day. I use mousse and a little conditioner as my leave-in products.

As summer approaches, this battle becomes unwinnable no matter how much product I use, and I am eternally stuck with dry, gross hair. This has been made even worse, as over the winter I decided to dye my hair red, then pink, then blue, and finally back to "brown" (a faint poop green colored, as the blue wouldn't come out). I've been wanting to chop my hair off for a while; I never liked messing with my hair and I believe a pixie cut would be the perfect maintenance for me.

My question is: if I were to get a short cut such as this /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fslhairstyles.com%2Fimages%2F2009%2F06%2Fpixie-haircut.jpg" class="Popup or this /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fmidorilei.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2008%2F08%2Fwinona-short.jpg" class="Popup, would my hair become weird and wavy/curly or would it be straight? I really really do not want to end up with something like this /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.marieclaire.com%2Fcm%2Frealbeauty%2Fimages%2FJ9%2Frb-short-pixie-cut-15-0809-de.jpg" class="Popup; it looks nice but it's just not my style.

Thanks!

your hair looks like it has some great potential :)

It's always hard to predict what your hair will do when it's cut super short, but from what you've shown us I'd guess it may lean more towards straighter when cut short with a slight wave. Then again, you wouldn't have the extra weight pulling your curls down, since it looks like you're curl pattern is fairly loose.

But I like that first picture of your hair, the darker one. It looks so soft :)

It looks like you have a lot of damage from the coloring...I would do some research on here, but many protein treatments and deep conditioning treatments will help...But if it is damaged beyond repair, the only thing that will help is cutting it off...Are you CG? That may help getting the moisture level back to normal...

your hair sounds like mine in lower dews - either stringy from too much product, or very dry hair around my face.
in mid to high dews i love my hair -- i use cj aloe fix gel as a leave in, no other leave in or styler, love my hair with it!! i use a rinse out conditioner, mostly cj deep fix as a rinse out, but it could be a lighter one, too, then rinse it completely, then smooth/scrunch in the aloe fix gel in dripping wet hair while still in the shower. give it a try when the dew points are higher.

+1 on a protein treatment -- my hair is usually better when i do do one, altho my texture is medium.

i love short hair cuts, the only problem for me is when i get sick of it and want to grow it out, hate that phase. honestly, i have not had my hair really short since i've gone cg so i have no idea what it would be like.

    3a, some 2c & 3b, medium texture, porosity normal, low elasticity :-(

It depends on where your curls start (ear length=no problem, root curl may be iffy). On the up side, I have had hair that short many times and it is super simple to style and very easy to remove curl if you need to (a quick blow dry with a flat brush will have you out the door in under 5 minutes). You have to worry less about damage since you will get regular cuts to keep the shape up. On the down side, you have less options for styling and the grow out is awful.
    FIA: 2b-c/f/i, normal porosity/elasticity I think?

after looking at the pictures of how you want it cut, it is really short -- maybe you'd want to do an 'in between' haircut, see how you like it, how your hair reacts?

Can I ask, did you actually end up getting a pixie cut? If you did, how did it go? My hair is rather similar, and I'm quite sick of it really, it's been in the exact same style for fifteen years now, and I am considering a pixie cut or something similar that is short.

My hair is way more unruly than yours. I'd been growing it out for 8 mos and I finally couldn't take it any more. I whacked it off to a very short pixie (again). My texture is changing due to menopause and becoming more course in areas. I still have to use a small curling iron to make it curl forward for the cut because it's soooo stubborn in areas, but is still much less time in the morning. Looking at how your hair curls at the base, I'd say go for it!
