Curl refresher sprays for 2nd day hair?

I have been on an unsuccessful mad hunt for an inexpensive curl refresher spray for 2nd day hair. I do like Jessicurl Awe Inspiriling Spray, but it's too expensive. Anyone know of one I can find in the drugstore to use on dry hair that will refresh curls and does NOT leave hair sticky & crunchy? $12 or under would be good. My hair is 2c-3a. Thanks!!

I have almost started a post like this. I've been on the hunt as well. Curls Lavish Curls says it's for 2nd day hair (though I haven't gotten my second day hair to work right since going CG). I also have Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner. This is suppose to be good for 2nd day hair. I did a search once on nc.com and this was one of the products (along with many others of course). I can't tell if it works well or not either. I'm still experiementing with products.

Today I have just bought Kinky Curly Spiral Spritz, and Sea Moisture Thickening Moisture Spray. My hair can hold volume, but I don't know if I over conditioned today + the weather being all humid/rainy/windy/sunny/hot my hair, my hair seems a little sad. So I bought these on my lunch break to touch up my hair. From the little I used on my frizz and to put a little more volume back in my hair, they seemed to do their job. I need to experiemnt more with them to see how I like them. But, they do not seem to be sticky or crunchy. :]

KCKT can also be used as a 2nd day frizz control. Use a little to help smooth done the frizzes. I also used SM curl milk to smooth some frizz this morning when I work up.

My Target has Curls Lavish Curls for only $5.48, so I tried it. I think the formula is good, however, the spray nozzle on the bottle is TERRIBLE. It shoots it out in a very narrow stream. Going to look for a mister bottle to dump it into. I'm hopeful though that I will end up loving it!

It seems like everyone's target is putting the Curls and KC on sale. Mine is not. :(
I think the Shea Moisture needs to go on sale as well.

I just bought this today too and the spray is just like you describe. I think because it's gel-like, it won't mist very well. I played with it this afternoon and found that if I sprayed some in my hand and then gently slid my hands over my hair and scrunched, it looked pretty good. Sadly, my Target didn't have good deals on any of the curly stuff I bought.

Where do you buy Kinky Curly Spiral Spritz and the thickening moisture spray?
  • beeduhbeeduh Posts: 684Registered Users
I got KCSP and SM thickening spray from Target. My walgreens carries a few SM products as well, but not the ones for thickening with biotin in it. I did pick up the moisture spray to see if I can use it as a refresher spray.

Went to Target today and got the Curls Lavish Curls Moisturizer spray. It wasn't on sale :tongue6:, it was $10.99. That's still better than the $14-$15 I was paying for the Jessicurl plus shipping. You're right about the spray nozzle. Luckilly, I had an empty bottle of the Jessicurl spray and just switched the nozzle! Now it sprays nicely. I tried it and I LOVE it so far... Curls just sprung right back looking awesome! Thanks you guys!!

Yay! I lived what the KCSS did for me this morning. :)

My hubby doesn't care for the smell of the lavish curls. I love it though. It's very fruity.

I'm loving Roots of Nature Mango Cupuacu Curl Reviving Spray.

At Sally's, it costs under $7.00 for an 8.5 oz. bottle. I also love Deva Mist-er Right and Ouidad Botanical Boost, but they cost a lot more than the Mango-Cupuacu.

I also love KCSS on days when my hair doesn't reject glycerin.

Beeduh,, glad to hear that How did you apply it?

I applied the spiral spritz to damp hair after Shea moisture curling milk. This was in the morning on bed head. Not quite 2nd day hair since I normally wash and style at night. I pixie diffused a little, let hair dry, and scrunch out the crunch.

With the Lavish Curls, I haven't had a good day with it yet. I think it's because glycerin is high on the ingredients list, but I also applied it with different products. I still need to experiment with this one. I would apply it just like the spiral spritz. Also for both products, I spray them in my hand and rub my palms together before putting it in my hair. They come out in a stream Which I don't like.

I use FOTE AVG, a tiny bit of water, some LI, some Epsom, a little oil, some curl gel, a little honey and/or KY, and some CNPF.

Spritz it on, and curls and waves pop up before my eyes! But... I do get a little frizz. :/. Or rather the frizz I have from sleeping, etc doesnt go away.

Yeah... Is that odd? Those are common curl enhancers and humectants. ?

    I live in the Midwest.

FOTE is "Fruit of the Earth" - it's a brand of aloe gel. (they make the juice, too.)

I've been trying to keep my eye on humectants in my products. Since I'm still pretty new to CG. Ive had days where my hair kinda dried out and I think it might have been due to glycerin. But I'm not quite sure. I live in the south. It's humid a lot here and so far we've had high few points lately. Though when I noticed my hair becoming dry at the end of the day the dew points were lower. So far I have no clue if it was really caused by humectants at all. :]

I dissolve it right into a spray bottle! All of that makes a surprisingly thin liquid! Sprays easily, refreshes well! Like I said, it doesn't help much with frizz, but if I had smoothed that with some coconut oil first, it might have gone better.

It is a little crunchy, but scrunched out very easily.

I know you said it was pricey, but really the best one I've found is the Jessicurl Awe Inspiraling. It just works so well!

I recently tried the CURLS Lavish Curls (the one Shopbop wrote about). I got a huge sample in an order from Aveyou, and I got one from Sally's as soon as I could. I love it! It smells fabulous. I used it after I wet my hair, before applying product, and my hair had great hold and bounce. I've also used to it refresh & add definition over my leave-in & CCCC (on dry hair) and it really worked. It's so nice to have the peachy scent, because I've been getting burned out on the lavender Mist-er Right. (Not that I don't love it, but I like variety.) The Lavish Curls is $9.99 at Sally's for an 8 oz. bottle.

My current Target doesn't carry the CURLS line at all, but luckily it has Kinky-Curly. Sally's is just as close to my house, and a lot more fun to shop at!

You're right the shea moisture is kind of pricy (I'm assuming it's the 9.99), but I do believe the line has a mist spray, I haven't tried it, but I do like their smoothie so I'm assuming their spray should be good too.

I like just water with some FOTE mixed in. Spritz it on in the morning and I'm usually good to go. I'll finger curl or smooth out any stubborn spots if necessary. My hair is fine and too much of any product will weigh it down and make it gunky feeling. I love the Shea Moisture line of products but their sprays are too heavy and/or oily for me. I haven't tried the other sprays that folks have mentioned in this thread. The product junkie in me wants to try everything. Experience tells me to keep it simple. Three parts water to one part FOTE in a spray bottle and I'm a happy camper.

A decent, cheap refresher spray is Cantu comeback curls, but the spray bottle is rubbish (it squirts rather than mists). I've tried Jessicurl and CJ refreshments but my favourite is homemade. Cheap coconut conditioner diluted 1:4 in magnesium sulphate solution, which I make from a big bag of epsom salts.

I really love the ouidad botanical boost refreshing spray ❤️ It's pricey but it works really well to bring curls to life :) I even used it as a light leave in before gel. I haven't bought it in a long time I think I might start buying it again haha. It can be found at Sephora and online

I would also like to add that you can make a diy lavender spray or a mix of water, conditioner, and a couple drops of your favorite light oil. Both work well as a curl refresher :) the curly girl book also suggests a spray gel but I have not tried it for 2nd day hair
