Do you have ONE?

I've noticed that many curlies use a combination of styling products at once. And I'm guilty of the same thing. Does anyone have ONE product that gets the job done? I'm so tired of using a combo of stuff to get a good hair day. It would be nice to have a simple routine... I don't want to have to decide what goes together, what order to apply it, etc. I'd love to just use ONE product (leave-in not included cuz I don't rinse all my condish).

If you have ONE, please post what you use, how you use it and what it does for you.

thanks!

I just use one thing, other than a leave in that is.
I just use the Suave smoothing antifrizz gel with aloe extract.

The gel helps with clumping and curl and holds my hair just enough all day long and best of all it's cheap. yay!
    2c/3a?
    Low porosity, medium texture.

I can use HE Body Envy Mousse to get a really nice result - clumpy curls, enough volume, moisture, hold...I also enjoy [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curly-Hair-Solutions-Curl-Keeper-p-28.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=curly-hair-solutions-curl-keeper]Curl Keeper[/buylink] alone
(I too leave in conditioner in my hair so this is over a little conditioner)

Medusa, is that the exact name of the gel? I can never find the right one! Does it have a lot of crunch?
  • medusahairmedusahair Posts: 3,515Registered Users
Yes that's the name of it. I got it at Walmart, they have it at Walgreens here too. It's a whole 1.57
I get a tiny bit of crunch if I don't use a leave in but it scrunches right out. If I use a leave in generally get no crunch.

I wish I had tried this back when everyone first mentioned it I could have been having great hair days all along.

right now ALL I am using is HE Body Envy...unless you count the fact that I don't rinse out any of my V05 condish.....but since that isn't really a styling product......

Lately I have been using Aura Hypo Gel only. I am loving my hair. It is getting much longer and more spirally (is that a word??) I find the more products I use, the more producty and crunchy my hair is. I find the less products I use the better. :D

I mostly just use Angell and it works! (But now that the weather's so cold and windy I use a cream too.)

Graham Webb Making Waves gel is the only product I had true success with all on its own. It adds tons of shine (contains mica), makes curls bouncy and weightless, and my hair always felt really soft and touchable with it. I think it is a good cool/cold weather gel-it has a medium hold. It actually seemed to perform better on it's own then w/ other products. I prefer max. holds gels in warmer weather though.

I could use just JoiWhip Mousse and get good results (with a leave-in but that doesn't count, right?) but my hair wouldn't be as curly as I like it...I think. In fact I might try that tomorrow...not using the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]re:coil[/buylink] that is. I've wanted to try looser curls but every combo I try makes my hair stringy. It never occured to me to NOT use something!!

i'll go you one better - i use no products.

(to be fair, sometimes i will use a smidge of pomade, and i'll do a quick rinse depending on how much moisture my hair needs on a given day).

I really don't like to layer up or combo products.

My #1 favorite product is Curls Rock Amplifier.
#2 is [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] that I bought on the swap board. It's good but I wouldn't pay full price for it.
#3 is probably Garnier Soft Curls Cream.

I rotate around which product I'm going to use and only use one at a time. I'm a simple person: after squeezing out the extra water in my hair, I rake or comb through product. Sometime I diffues, usually I just air dry.
If I don't touch my hair, get it caught in my purse, or hung on the seatbeat, then my curls stay pretty defined all day.

What I wouldn't do to find that ONE product! Until then, I remain a PJ . . . always trying new products, new combinations, and new quantities. I guess I'm still kind of new at the game, however. :)

I just condish with AHC and I'm done, unless its my weekly shampoo day. Lately I've sometimes been scrunching in aloe vera gel after my shower, it defines my curls a little more.

I pretty much only use one product, its pretty cheap too. Beyond the Zone Noodle Head from Sally's. I layer that on top of a combination of cheap conditioner and honey.

I use the Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine as my Leave In. Then I use my homemade Flaxseed gel (Boil 1cup water + 2tbsp Flax seed, strain & keep in fridge). This gel gives definition and light hold, but it is sooooooo moisturizing, when I wet my hair before my CO wash, it is sooooooo soft. But let me warn you the gel is a bit on the runny side so I mix it in with my leave-in. For my second day hair I use a little Fantasia IC gel (clear) to smooth things out. I will post some pics of my second day hair today.

Yes! There is hope! Thank you for all the responses; I'll be looking into some of those.
Toosweet, that flax seed gel sounds good and your hair is lovely.
Godgivenperm, how do you use Curls Rock? How much do you use? and what kind of hold?

If I use one product, Aura Hypo Gel is my favorite too. The 2nd choice would be B&A's biomineral gel. These are probably the one gels I use by themselves. I do use Angell by itself but I always leave One C in first.

All of the above provide good hold and no frizz for me. If I want 2nd day hair I usually go for the Aura gel or the B&A gel.
2b/3a, primarily use Jessicurl and DevaCurl products, Curls Hair Tea conditioner and various gels. I'm modified CG-ish since 5/04.

I have never used anything but one styler in my hair. Right now I only use my leave in, which I don't count really, and sometimes shea butter as a pomade.

I have had the most luck with ArcAngell and Magick Botanicals Gel.

Although you wouldn't know if from my picture my hair is actually below BSL now. I use about 1 1/2 pumps of the container. I squeeze out the extra water in my hair and rake or comb through product. Sometimes I diffuse, usually I just air dry.

As for hold, well, it has a little crunch but not a lot. It's not a "hard" hold but it's more hold than say a "medium" gel.

Okay I use one styling cream in my hair to style it with but I use different ones depending on my hair's needs now. I would have to say that [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/CURLS-Curls-Milkshake-p-884.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curls-Curls-Milkshake]Curls Milkshake[/buylink] formula now tops my list when it comes to an all-in-one product for my hair when I need light to medium moisturization . But when my hair needs medium or heavy moisture I now go for either Curls Souffle or Whipped Cream. And when my curls need extra frizz protection or hold based on the weather an adequate moisturization I now go for Curls Spiral Curl Cream.

The only products that I must use a spray leave-in(Curls Quenched) first with are Curls Souffle and Whipped Cream.

Angell works fine. If I need more moisture in the cold air, I won't rinse off all my conditioner.
    Have several allergies and sensitivities.
    Current products
Low Poo/Cowash: Rio Grande Herb Co Negrita and Amole Deep Treatment Concentrate, Magick Botanicals (MB) Shampoo (diluted)
Rinse out/Leave in: MB with apricot kernel and jojoba oils added
Protein Treatment: MB Conditioner for Thinning Hair, IAgirl's protien treatment
Style: MB Gel mixed with LOTD Aloe Vera Gelly

2b-c, need lots of moisture, likes protein in moderation.

B&A gel -- or any decent gel is OK on it's own in non-challenging weather conditions, ie humidity. But as soon as humidity rises above 60%, very few products can stand alone for me. If I want one product that is humidity resistant enough on its own, the only one I can think of is Curls Rock, like a cream/gel/cones combo. Pretty heavy duty. A 3A I know swears by it, & I have to say her hair looks remarkably consistent, in all kinds of weather.

Yes! So I tried Tigi Catwalk Curls Rock Amplifier over leave-in today... Success! My curls turned out really nice. I was even complimented by another curlie. My curls also looked natural and felt soft/med hold vs. the typical hard stiff crunchy strong hold from gel. (I normally use gel with something else).

I have a few other things that I am going to try solo.

Thanks for all the replies! :D

Inspired by this thread, I decided to just try one styler besides my leave-in (and CK when needed). I've been using Graham Webb Making Waves gel for the last 3 days and it's been working great.

The other things I've used alone just over a leave-in are:

    *GF Soft Curl Cream
    *GF XXL Weightless Volume Gel
    *L'Oreal Out of Bed
    *HE Set Me Up
    *ABBA Weightless
    *Biosilk RHG

That's all I can think of for now. Boy this really makes me want to concentrate on using just one styler from now on. That'll be a challenge  .

I like to keep things simple. My regular gel is LA Looks Sport and it's been my HG for going on 3 years. If it's an extremely dry day I might mix it with a little oil or Ojon or honey. But I'd say 90% of the time I use it alone.
