Going from locs to natural hair

I have had locs for almost seven years and I am bored them, but love them at the same time.

I started to take out my locs from the back of my head but stop the process is painful, but I am glad that i did the back.

What i plan to do now is let it grow out and maybe cut the locs at the end of the year if they have grown long enough. I have started to deep condition my hair once a month. I have seen if you are going from relaxer to natural that you should condition weekly. Do you have to do this going from locs to natural

I think that I have type 4B hair.
