Need a hydrolyzed protein con dish with no 'cones, mineral oil, etc.

RimiRimi Registered Users Posts: 2,001 Curl Neophyte
Does anyone know of any conditioners that contains hydrolyzed protein, but no mineral oil, 'cones, etc. I'm trying to incorporate some more hydrolyzed protein into my hair regimen to use as a deep treatment, but I can't seem to find any products containing it with also having the 'cones and such.

Any help?

I don't believe Curl Rehab has any proteins, I think you mean Curl Fix which has hydrolyzed proteins in it.

Actually it's Curl Junkie Repair Me - the reconstructive treatment I meant.
    Not curl fix or rehab!

Mop c system hydrating conditioner. No cones and a lot of protein. I thought I was protein sensitive but my hair loves this stuff. It must depend on the protein.

Spiral Solutions Repairing Protein Treatment is good (but it smells really bad lol). It's still pricey IMO though - $18 for 8oz bottle.

Shescenit Okra Reconstructor seems to work pretty well. I just used it for the first time today. It smells WAY better than SSRPT and I'm pleased with the results. It's $12 for 8oz and $20 for 16oz.

Mill Creek Botanicals also has a Keratin Repair conditioner that's pretty decent. It's only $6 for a 16oz bottle on iHerb.com - Vitamins, Supplements & Natural Health Products. I use it as a RO at least once a week because it's not thick enough to use as a PT for me, but it still gives my curls a boost.

Not sure if its been mentioned but Shea moisture restorative conditioner is another. Not sure if the protein is hydrolyzed though. Ouidad's botanical boost is protein packed too. Its just a spritz type refresher spray though.

I DT'd with Nature Gate's Hemp Conditioner, and I love it! My curls sprang right up and it was the perfect product to use before I straighten my hair later on tomorrow!

    Update:

Washed my hair after straightening this week...briefly DT'd with my NG condish and, again, my curls sprang up beautifully! Follow up with a AOHSR DT and my curls feel moisturized, strong and healthy!

Just ignorance on my part, but any time I see "keratin" I automatically think "straightening" these days with all the hype about that. Do you find that this condish loosens your curls temporarily? I am going to look for this on vitacost site since I usually order from them. Thanks for mentioning.

you can start with giovanni nutrafix reconstructor and it has soybean protein in it. Its normally around 8-10 bucks. I know that vitacost has it on sale right now. Also the curl junkie stuff is high but it does work . CJ will b e having an easter sale 20% off but I think there has to be a minimum purchase. Curlmart you can put in the code save15 and that works on most of the products I think with the exception of kinky curly and carols daughter. I hope this helps. Working on a budget myself

Nope, I haven't noticed that it loosens at all. I use that conditioner mid-week when my curls need a protein boost to perk up my wavies. Although I will say that I usually plop or pixiecurl or both, so I may be counteracting any potential loosening with those techniques. I did see that there are a few different versions of the Mill Creek Keratin conditioners. The only one I've used is the Repair formula. It's a white/cream bottle with a red label.

I also used Botanical Spirits Keratin Smoothie for the first time today and that seemed to work really beautifully too (but that has some mild cleansers in it, so it's really a low-poo). I followed that with my new love - YTC conditioner. I am thinking that I kind of like it better to use a keratin product first and follow it up with a moisturizing conditioner, but will have to keep experimenting to see if that was a one-hit-wonder or not.

ION Effective Care. Super moisturizing and packed hydrolized wheat protein. My protein-loving hair adores it. It's my daily RO. It's $16 for a giant freakin bottle at Sally's or $8 for the smaller bottle. Smells kinda.... weird.... but not bad.
 fine, thin, normal/(low?) porosity. Mod-CG. Usually I can't co-wash more than 1x a week, & sometimes I have to use T-Gel in rotation due to scalp issues.

    Co-wash: VO5 Volumizing
    Poo: Giovanni 50:50
RO:TN, Nexxus Youth Renewal, Alba Coconut
    LI: KCKT
    PT: gelatin PT, ION EC
Stylers: Giovanni mousse, TIGI Curls Rock amplifier (a-cone), Curls Rock Strong Hold Mousse
    Gels: SCC spray gel

Cure Care is probably still my fave protein condish,

    Ingredients are listed as follows:

    Water
    Cetyl Alcohol
    Cetrimonium Bromide
    Hydrolyzed Keratin
    Polymethoxy Bicyclic Oxazolidine
    Methylparaben
    Propylparaben
    Citric Acid

It has good slip and can be used as a co-wash, RO or LI. As an added bonus it's great to use if you run out of shaving cream and is good at removing makeup as well. A gallon size is only about 8 bucks at Sally's.

Elucence extended moisture is good as it has few hydroprots in it.
