Coconut oil....is it a protein?

I've been reading this section lately because I'm semi protein sensitive and I'm confused about coconut oil. Is it considered a protein?

My hair reacts to coconut oil the same way it reacts to protein-containing products (and I've heard many protein-sensitive curlies say the same). So use with caution!

From what I read here on nc.com, one feature of coconut oil is that it's especially good at holding onto protein, so that's why some protein sensitive people have difficulty with it. (I don't have the links to the articles/discussion about this on hand, but I found this info from just doing a search).

I'm pretty protein sensitive but my hair really likes coconut oil (it soaks it in really well whereas some oils just sit on my hair and make it look oily). Nevertheless, when I use coconut oil to do an oil rinsing, I make a point to be really sure I'm not using any products that have strengthening proteins anywhere in the ingredients list.

So I tried something yesterday. I mixed some coconut oil and avocado oil into my LI (Suave Naturals Wild Cherry Blossom). The left side of my hair loved it and the right side (I have three different curl parents and textures) hated it. My hair loves it when I mix it into my PT (I have to do a protein deep treatment once a month). So it seems like if I wash it out its OK but not leaving it in.

I'm so tempted to cut it all off!!! It's just too much work and I'm never happy.
