Oldest parts of hair changing colour... *added pic*

As time has passed I have noticed that the older parts of my hair have this brown/light reddish cast. It became even more apparent when I did my last wash n go, and noticed a distinctly darker/black growth.

Anybody know the reason for this. I understand that the sun is usually the culprit, but I hardly get alot of sun where I am based?!

It's no surprise as well that I have very porous hair.

This is my hair still drying from a wash & go. The white streaks are leave-in conditioner yet to completely dry.
Forgive me if this is redundant, but I slightly adjusted the saturation of colour on the pic to make the demarcation of colour more apparent.

Do you color your hair? Is it color fading? If not, it could just be sun damage.

No I don't colour my hair.

I did suspect this, but I'm from London, UK.. We don't get a huge amount of sun here..lol.
Unless my hair must be uber-sensitive to minimal levels of UV rays.

My hair got like that when it was starting to look weathered and split. Is it only that color when you hold it up to the light? What color is the rest of your hair? It sounds like it's time for a trim to me.

Ironically, I don't suffer from splits, had a shape up about a month ago, my stylist kept complimenting me on the condition of my ends. (Finger-detangling cuts down on splits & knots.) Yes I notice the brownish tint more in the sunlight.
My hair is this colour for a greater length of my hair.Only the new growth about an inch from the scalp looks black, the rest has this brownish tint.

I wonder if anyone else has this problem?

I'm thinking hard water and sun light. Hmmph.. Does this mean I have to start considering products with UV protection now.?

I have a lot of red ends. Red hair runs in my family so I just figure that is how it manifests in me? *Shrug.*
