    I'm here! Haha!

I would just try it on a small section of hair underneath and see how it reacts! ;)

Maybe while it's dry, wet that small section, add the tresemme, and see how it feels!

Jas, Did the strand test and it seemed ok, so decided to give it a try. The Tresseme Naturals with Aloe & Avocodo turned not too bad. Not as good as the GV 50/50, but not too dang bad.

Still had to use 1/4 of the bottle for 1 wash, RO and leave in, but my hair didn't hate it! Yaay! So it's kind of exciting to have 2 options at this point.

Geek Chic, I will definitely put the GFTN on my list for a RO try. Thanx! I just gotta get through all the new ones I got to try before I get more.

Hmmm, so it really does look like protein is my problem then which woild explain ALOT of my issues! It just makrs do much sense now.

So now, I wonder since I had bought these to try:
    Jojoba Oil
    Coconut Oil (solid)
Cocoa Butter and Jojoba Oil (solid)
    Argan Oil

I think the Argan Oil should be fine, but do I need to worry about the rest for protein? Watcha think?

Not 100% sure, but I thought I read that pure oils do not affect protein balance in hair.
Finally have a routine that works :toothy5:

Low Poo - 2chic Avocado & Olive Oil Ultra-Moist Shampoo
    Co-Wash - V05 Passion Fruit Smoothie Conditioner
RO - Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, Cure Care, GVPCB
    LI - KCNT
Stylers - GF Pure Clean Gel, BTZ Noodle Head, LA Looks Sports Gel, Eco Styler Krystal, KCCC (I am a product junkie ;-) )

Wash at night, add products, plop in a t-shirt overnight, then diffuse in the morning!! It is great finally getting to sleep in :sleepy2:

Oils are pure fats, unless improperly processed, so they contain 0 protein. On coconut oil though, a study (I read the abstract, not the entire thing) showed it reduces protein loss in hair, and is able to penetrate into the individual strands.

If it reduces protein loss, your hair will hang onto more protein, so I'd assume you might get some protein exposure symptoms if your hair is protein sensitive. I'm just speculating on that though, since my hair seems to love proteins.

Geek, that does make sense. I did get all the oils from the health food store and I checked to make sure that there were no preservatives or additional additives before I bought them.

I was just cruising the protein sensitive forum & they are saying that Jojoba & Aloe are a no go and it looked like coconut was iffy.

I can't imagine why jojoba oil would be a problem, honestly. It shouldnt have any protein. Aloe can be drying for other reasons - there are people whose hair loves protein but hates aloe.

Couple things about protein - it doesn't have to be a yes or no. It can be that your hair likes protein, but only in small amounts. So if you have a protein heavy product, or several products that are light to moderate, you may just be getting too much. It's not necessarily a yes or no question, you know?

Also, there are many people who say their hair likes one kind of protein, but not another. (example - it could love silk proteins, but hate wheat protein.)

And always remember you need to balance your protein with more moisture!!

Uh huh, I did notice some can take different kinds and some none at all. I also suspect it's where you are in damage and health as well. The safest of what I have in my now lineup is Argan, so wanna try that 1st and if it goes well then gradually try the others.

Since there are varios ways to use oils, watcha think would be the best for now?

I most often use oil just after LI, under any gels. I'll also use a couple drops rubbed into my palm then smoothed over dry hair to touch up frizz halo or fly-aways.

Do you just use a few drops, or more under gel? Does it weigh it down or look greasy? And, have you ever used as a DT, or even on dry hair for that matter?

I use... Idk, a dime sized puddle, maybe? And only on the lower half of my hair.

Like I said, I'll smooth a few drops onto dry hair for some shine and frizz control.

I have used coconut oil as a pre-poo treatment, several times, and had food results!

I like the prepoo idea. Forgive me for this stupid question, but I know nothing about oils...why wouldn't you use them everyday? Would it get too greasy, or weighed down?

I do use oils pretty much every day, actually. It just depends on what my hair needs.

I don't use coconut oil heavily every day bc it gets too heavy on me. (since it penetrates the shaft). EVOO is the same.

Jojoba Oil is light enough that sealing with it every time I wash is no problem. And i can use coconut or jojoba just to smooth frizz without too much trouble, tho.

I had quite the setback today. Tried the Tresseme again since it worked ok last time and what a mess. *sigh*. 2 hour shower and 2 complete handfuls of hair again. Hubby came home & was crying my eyes out cuz it still felt so terrible. It's official for me...no protein and no aloe.

Then, I remembered our oil conversations, so got back in the shower & low poo'd everything, then back to my trusty GV 50/50 & put argan oil over that & light rinsed. Was too afraid to even try gel cuz I had lost so much to tangles again. Diffused & it feels so much better even though it 's real fly away w/ no styler in it.

So you saved me w/ the oil. Thank you so much! I'm really bummin' though since there is only the GV 50:50 that is working so far.
